useing tone on e-collar

I just got a sportdog e-collar and was wondering who has used the tone before stim and if you started off training that way or did you add it later.The reason i,am asking was i am thinking that the time for the stim to come on after the tone defeats the purpose on correcting right away.
       I would eventually like to use the tone more than the stim.Anybody with exp.with this i would love to hear how you went about it.Thanks in advance

yeah but i like the idea of being able to have him respond just using the tone instead of the stim always

I have used ecollars on my two pointers for about 5 years now, and I have always used the tone as a warning before stim.  When I give them a command and they don't listen I give them the tone and "NO" and if they still don't listen they get stim and "NO".  Didn't take them long to figure out they better listen after they got the tone, or else the stim was coming next.  Now I very rarely have to use the stim. I just use the tone and for the most part they react instantly to it.

how did you guys incorperate the tone did you start off using tone then stim or did you start off the training without the tone then after they relized they could turn the stim off did you then introduce the tone or just right off the bat train with tone and stim?

3 Steps

1.  Teach them the command first...You can do this with the collar on but have it turned off.
2.  Once they know the command through repetitions introduce the tone when they punk you off.  When you see them acknowledge the tone, call them to you and praise.  Depending on the dog you might never need to tag them.
3.   If your still getting punked off: Verbal command, tone, LIGHTEM UP! ...give yourself about 2 seconds in between commands. 

If you are not sure or confident about what your doing have someone else introduce the collar.  After your dog knows what is expected of him!!!

thanks blue moon thats kinda how i was thinking to do it.Yes my dog learned his commands before i even got a collar and i have just been letting him wear it for the last few days while we work  thru his commands to get use to it.Today was the first time i turned it on to start conditioning him by having him kennel( i already figured out the correct level earlier in the day) I would give the command and hold the stim on until he was in then released the stim that way he sees that he can turn the stim off worked really good

I agree with Bluemoon.  I never used my ecollars when doing basic obediance training with my dogs.  I use them for when I cannot be close enough to them to correct them (ie. out in the field). When I introduced them to the ecollars I just started to introducing it into the things you normally do with them. Then just incorporate the ecollar into your normal disciplinary action starting with the tone and them stim.
