Need some Kokanee advice
« on: June 22, 2011, 07:40:59 PM »
I have fished for kokanee in Shannon Lake before by chumming and using a bobber and maggot.  I want to go after them in Lake Stevens but I am unsure of the gear to use.  I have a boat with a fishfinder. I don't have downriggers.  For rods, I have light trout rods and a 8' Ugly Stick with an Abu Garcia Ambassadour that I use for Salmon. I guess my question is what kind of tackle do I need, what depths to fish and do I troll an area that has been chummed(Not sure if I can do that in this lake yet)? Also any particular area in the lake I should focus on? Any info would help. Thanks guys.

Rob

I use lake trolls. with wedding ring spinners tipped with white corn soaked with anise oil. I always start about 15 pulls with 2 oz. of lead early morn. before the sun comes up. Then deeper as the day goes on.

:yeah:  I also have had luck with a small slingblade dodger, 4 foot leader and a kokonee killer spoon in pink or orange or a wee dicknite half and half or white/pink.

I know some people that jig for them at night. Like was said before the only way i've fished for them is trolling. I use 4-5 oz. banana weight, lake trolls, rubber bands and then a homemade wedding ring tipped with either maggots or white shoe peg corn. Have had better luck with maggots on sullivan lake. Usually I let out about 40-50 ft. of line, but this is all up at sullivan lake but what works here may not work other places. Good luck.

Wait until it's your turn. Just follow the words and try to sing in tune.

Oh, you said kokanee. Never mind.

When they get to the surface they will spin and pull the hook out of their soft mouth. When they start to spin, drop your rod tip until they stop spinning, you won't loose "as many" LOL
