Little Naches rifle bull
« on: June 25, 2011, 08:47:19 AM »
Hi, I came across this forum by word of mouth from a co-worker.  I could use some info on the little naches rifle bull tag I drew. The season is Oct 1-10. I live on the westside so I don't think I'll be able to get time to scout before the season. I drew multiseason elk and a co-worker talked me in to putting in for this tag but I didn't realize it was so far away. Any suggestions would be appreciated. By the way anyone know what contour line or road map will be helpful.
Thanks

Its not that far away from you. Drop over Hwy 12 to Hwy 410, and head west. You will be in your unit in less the 10 miles

There are a lot of bulls in that unit all over, especially durringthe rut, you should not have much of a problem getting in to elk. Do your scouting and get to know the area you are going to hunt.

Norsepeak is the local hunting guide in the area and I know he has several huge bulls waiting for him to bring the hunter to them  :chuckle:   He is a good caller and will you would have the pick of the bull you desire. Send him a PM   ;)

This must be a joke. you drew this great once in a lifetime hunt and you don't think you can find the time to get to know or even find an area that you know nothing about?

If you drew this tag and know absolutely nothing about the unit and do not have the time to scout it,  and I mean scout it a lot,  I would contact Norsepeak. This is too good of a tag to waste. No brainer. :twocents: :twocents:

This is too big of a unit to go in and hunt blind. :twocents: :twocents: I live not too far from this unit and spend a lot of time there. I still contacted Norsepeak  and he helped me out.

Oh and Welcome to the site

There's lot of elk in the unit. You need to get out there and scout, ever if its only one or two weekends.  Going into a new area blind is never a good idea and like Gasman said, its a lot closer than you think.
My buddy was drawn for this tag too, so maybe we will see you up there when we are scouting.
The best friend a guy could have asked for. RIP chasing pheasants in heaven Denali girl.

If you are after what I think is a pretty good map, purchase the National Geographic Trails Illustrated Map #823.  You can buy at a local sporting goods store or go online.  Good luck.  I have the late October rifle bull tag as well.

I bought the #823 map and its right on.  We too have this tag and the unit is so huge that you would need several weeks just to learn the road system let alone find the big bulls that are in the thousands of acres of trees.   We have our hunts lined out and ready to fill the meat sacks.  Good luck to the rest of you!

mechman,

I will trade you my cow tag for your bull tag since you can't scout... :chuckle: :chuckle:
As you come down chinook pass almost everything to your left is your unit, about 15-20 miles down will be Little Naches road, go left. This is also your area, ( welcome to "GODS COUNTRY" ). As others have said get a good map and drive the roads scouting. OCT1-10 you could kill one driving the roads, if that is what you want to do, other wise hit the deep canyons and you will find the elk....

This unit is not far from your place, just up and over white pass ...

good luck on that tag...
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

It doesn't matter what you think...

The Whiners suck!!

Call the owner of whistling jack lodge. He hooked me up on a cow tag about 7 years ago. http://whistlinjacklodge.com/index.cfm
