I saw two wolves, about ten years ago, just out of Colfax.  I called WDFW to report it, and all they did was argue with me, and ask me "what makes you think they were wolves"?  Yes, that's a quote.  DENIAL!  Well, I lived in  Alaska 47 years, and was a successful wolf trapper, I think I know one when I see one.  They just didn't want to deal with it.  Wolves are here to stay.  If they opened the season year 'round, with no limit, you could never kill them all.  When they were killed off a hundred years ago, it was through a concerted effort, using every means imaginable....that could never happen now. Too many obstacles these days....mostly people.
Don't think they require wilderness to survive, all they need is food.  I like wolves. I particularly like them draped around my neck.

Wolf heard howling this past saturday in 117 west of Colville. I have heard plenty of coyotes howling and yipping and am 99.999% sure this was a wolf as was my father who was up the ridge from me. It makes sense because we suddenly stopped seeing deer in the daylight and couldn't figure out why until that morning.

117 is east of colville.  121 is west

Just saw 3 mature wolves about a mile up no2 canyon in Wenatchee.  Notified a couple homeowners that were outside at the time

Does howling count ? My mutt was barking last night, as was every dog around about 9:30 pm. Then I hear this low, howling type sound on Franson Peak. Very suspicious as the howling was traveling all by itself.

Coyotes are pairing up this time of year and females will do some low, soft howling sometimes.

Lets hope anyway

Not coyotes. They were howling too, along with what I reported. There is a huge difference in sounds.

That's where the sound/howl was coming from exactly. I'm going to go look for tracks up there tomorrow.

Hey guys, I got signed up on here yesterday but I have been snooping around on here for a year or more. Not a big forum guy but it seems there are some good folks on here. I have been carrying a rifle in the woods since I was 11 and also got my first deer that year. Been fallowing my dad for longer. I am now quite a few years older and married. My wife and I were headed to Yakima last weekend for a family event and chose to chase some coyotes in Ellensburg off Vantage hwy before the event. It was about 1030am on our second set when something moved out of the corner of my eye to my right. I was sitting on the right side of a large rock filled corner post in a fence line and she was on the left. We were looking in the NW direction. I had been mostly hand calling some rabbit with a few coyote bark/howls for about 14 mins when the movement to my right got my attention. 325 yards away on the same ridge top was a wolf. Single, No radio caller, No ear tags, Female, she was the typical grey/brown/black color. I have never seen one before in my life outside a zoo and I assure you for the folks that have never seen one, you will know its a wolf within about 1/10 of a second. Quite the twist of events to our coyote hunt that morning. Figured I would report the sighting here since lots of you guys hunt in that area. Scares me for the Quilomene elk herd, not kidding, this meat chainsaw was only about 1.5 miles from where I parked my truck.
