Mine are about 1/2" high at 100 yards. I Think they are dead on at about 75y, been awhile since I shot them at less then 100y on paper.

I sight in at 50 yds, but I use traditional .54 cal muzzy and hunt in rainforest jungle.  Also, use heavy lead bullets.  The guys I know that use the moderns w/sabots in more open areas would sight in for 125 yds and practice out to 200 yds on milk jugs.

Dead on @ 150y

That puts it 4” high at 80y, 4” low at 175y.

Dead nuts at 100 yds.  Don't see a reason to sight in any further than that as a smokepoles effective range with open sights isn't much past 150 yds (in my opinion).  Plus, if I want to whack something at 200+ yards, I'll use my 7mm.

My BigHorn is around 2 inches high at 100yds but I think im going to sight in dead on at 75 yards! What do you guys sight dead on at??

I sight in at 100 yards... and check the other ranges.  I also use a system called PBR (Point Blank Range).  I have decided that I can live with a 6" PBR for any shot i would make.  In effect that insures me the bullet will never be more than 3" above or below the point of aim.

Quote
Small arms and maximum point blank range

Small arms are often sighted-in so that the sight line and bullet path are within a certain acceptable margin out to the longest possible range, called the maximum point blank range. The range of distance inside the maximum point blank range is greatly dependent on the external ballistics of the cartridge in question; high velocity rounds have long point blank ranges, while slow rounds have much shorter point blank ranges. Other factors in the point blank range are the target size (which determines how far above and below the line of sight the trajectory may deviate), the height of the sights, and an acceptable drop before a shot is ineffective.[3]

For myself that often translate into 1.5” high @ 100 and with that my max range POI is about 170 yards.  All of this can change of course with different bullets, powder load, and powder.

Here is an example of a ballistic sheet computed with a 3” PBR.  Also remember that this is with a scope, open sights will change this slightly.

If you like to the right side in the middle of the sheet… you can see that my dead zero range is 158 yards, and the max range is 194 yards. And in this case i would be almost 3" high @ 100
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

great at 100. I am an avid bow hunter so i can get that close. Late archery all day between 60 and 100. So muzzy i dont think i need to worry about trying to make the range any farther
