Yes they do.  I've caught steelhead on pink eggs as far away as some of the southern Oregon coastal rivers.  There has never been a pink in those waters.

Steelhead like a sweet cure so I use Borax'O Fire cure the most. just add some extra sugar to sweeten the eggos and the steelies should crush em! There are alot of cures out on the market today and all of them are good! Just remember that salmon cures and steelhead cures are different. Make sure to check out which one the cure is for because the salmon cures are more of a chemical base and the steelhead cures are more of a salt and sugar base!

i hope this helps good luck

When it comes to curing eggs I like to split them down the middle and lay them in a container with the skin side down and sprinkle on the cure, than lay another layer of eggs down and repeat the process you want to leave enough room in the container so you can roll the eggs around once you have sealed them. I like roll them around in the container for about 3 days than they are ready to fish!
if your not going to fish them with in a couple of weeks I would freeze them. The best way that I have found to do with with out damaging the eggs is to put them in the bag you are going to seal them in and than freeze them. Once the eggs are frozen than seal them other wise what will happen is when your sucking out all the air the eggs will start to pop and create a gooey mess! If you like to use jars than you can vacuum seal the jar and freeze.

Good Luck!

PA Ben
Toby does a nice job on explaining how to cure eggs with the borax o fire one thing about using paper towels is they can dry out the eggs to much so you have to keep an eye on them a bit more.

Anyone have interest in the eggs out of the pinks we catch? We caught a couple yesterday and they were just full of them. I don't use them so I just chucked them, then realized I should have saved them and offered them up. If you'd like some in the future that all of my family gets shoot me a message and I'll save them for you

sounds good, I will save them for you. Any particular thing I should do with em when I get them out? Just put them in  a ziploc on ice or something?

Ramsfan that is a great offer!  the best thing to do is dry them off before you bag them!

When adding sugar I use natural sugar not the white table sugar.  The natural sugar seams to be enough of a difference that it does catch more fish.  I am not sure what other stuff is in the white table sugar.  I use the Pautzke borax - o - fire and add a cup of the natural sugar.  (THIS IS NOT BROWN SUGAR).  then mix it up well and use as Pautzke suggestion for steelhead.

For salmon you do not use sugar...

What is natural sugar?  I'm not familiar with it but want to start playing around more with various cures.

for steelhead I have noticed the more natural the better..straight out of hens on the river seems to be the best. If I save and freeze I use borax only
