E-caller for Elk?
« on: August 14, 2011, 06:58:51 PM »
Just a question. Can you call Elk in with a FOXPRO? I was reading the regs and on page 70 it states "It is illegal to hunt waterfowl, turkey, or deer with the use or aid of electronic calls and battery powered or other electronic devices as decoys."
Just a question no trying to stir the pot just wondering.
"One does not hunt in order to kill; on the contrary, one kills in order to have hunted..If one were to present the sportsman with the death of the animal as a gift he would refuse it. What he is after is having to win it, to conquer the surly brute through his own effort and skill with all the extras that this carries with it: the immersion in the countryside, the healthfulness of the exercise, the distraction from his job." Thanks just checking. Everyone has told me it's illegal because they "think" it is. It probably should be but, all i see is that it's legal. I may try is see how good my FOXPRO is for Elk.  :dunno:

Totally legal for elk.

Had a guy pull up to a clear cut my dad and I were sitting in, waiting for the evening hunt, and blast an elk bugle over the PA in his white Jeep.  No answer so he drove off.  Dont be that guy.

I am sorry for the false information. I knew it was legal, and don't know why but for some reason said illegal. Better think a little harder next time.

No big deal.

It makes not sense.  Unless they mean elk because they are part of the deer family?

Yeah I have to wonder if the intent when they wrote the law was to also include elk, but it somehow got left out.

Jayrod, if you need some elk sounds for that foxpro I've got quite a few. Also check out http://www.elkheaven.com/. They have some quality recordings that I have been wanting to get for a while now but keep putting it off.

Wow! This must be some sort of an overcite!!

I agree it probably should and was not meant to be legal but it is. I can really see how a solo hunter during the rut could use this as a huge advantage. Locate the animals, stash the FoxPro in the brush, set up down wind and bang, yo've all the sudden got all the advantages of hunting with a caller!!
