pumped and feeling the elk mojo
« on: August 16, 2011, 03:24:36 AM »
Just got back from a weekend backpack scouting trip in a new area. scouted 36 miles of trail and bushwacking got the lay of the land. saw so much fresh sign I stopped looking, found where I will pack in my camp to. figured out elk travel patterns in the area. tonight my buddy shot a cow on rattlesnake mtn on master hunter 2nd elk tag. took my horse and mule which I havent packed elk with before.the mule probably has. no problems at all. beatiful moonlit night. next full moon I will be hunting.  . I am pumped and feeling 100% confident in how my season is going to go. everything is falling into place. now till season I just need to shoot my bow and tune up the calling. listen and read Elknuts stuff. anyone else feeling it?

Oh man I am definitely feeling it!  I work 13 out of the next 16 days....  Then I am off to elk camp for 10 strait!!!  I feel like a drug addict, all I can think about is elk camp!  Just this morning I got out some reeds and busted out a few bugles.  I've still got it!

Don't forget, you can never be 100% certain on the outcome of your season.  99.9999999999999999% is more realistic.  :chuckle:

OOOOoooh Man!  I stepped outside the house this morning an felt the cool air.  All I could think of was Fall is coming and I'll be in Elk camp by the 3rd of Sept!   Going out this weekend to download more picks from my trail cams and finalize stand locations.

Actually read a scientific study about changes in activity with moon phase.  Conclusion...no change in animal movements.  Basically, they move around just as much at night, no matter how much light is coming from the moon.

They feed at night if the moon is out which means that's less time they are feeding in daylight hours!

That's the myth.  The reality is that they move around just as much at night, and during the day, no matter what the phase of the moon.
