hunting taylor mountain forrest?

ive had alot of conflicting info on hunting taylor mountain forrest.. first i was informed its not a problem by a wdfw and now someone who claims to be an off duty king county sheriff tells me its a county park and its not allowed and left a sticker on my windsheild in my complete vision path unlike a usual application by a sheriff..

  I would check with All authorities before hunting a new area that I may not be sure about. Dont know the area your talking about but a few phone calls to the proper authorities to make sure is a whole lot better then a ticket. Whats the old saying about an ounce of prevention?

Taylor Mountain Forest is owned by King County. You need to contact them. If I remember correctly it is NOT a county PARK but rather a county FOREST. There was a time when you could hunt King County Forests, never been able to hunt county parks. However there has been some pressure to close all King County owned forests to hunting. You need to contact King County.

Page 32: "Hunting at Tiger Mountain State Forest is regulated by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife."

Sounds like if you are bow hunting you should be good to go. If you are using a firearm then you cannot hunt the forest.

I would still call to verify that hunting is legal there, it is hard to tell if it is considered a natural land area. if it is you have to follow these rules for their natural areas. Looking at th designated usages they only list Hiking, mountain biking, and horsebacking.

King County natural area rules as described on signage:

You are right, I miss-stated that.  No guns

While King County can regulate whether or not to allow shooting or hunting on their property, they cannot regulate the "carrying" of firearms because of the WA State preemptions laws.

This question has been bugging me for sometime, now.  Last year I called the county and got the run around with a final 'no archery hunting' answer.  So, I Just called the number the bigtex provided, which is KC Parks and Recreation.  Same number that kenbell27 referenced.  They said no-go for hunting in the Taylor Mountain forest based on section 7.12.360 of Title 7 ( http://your.kingcounty.gov/mkcc/clerk/code/10_Title_7.pdf ).

7.12.630 Firearms, weapons. No person except duly authorized law enforcement personnel shall possess a bow and arrow, crossbow, or air or gas weapon in a county park. No person shall discharge across, in, or into any King County park area a firearm, bow and arrow, crossbow, air or gas weapon, or any device capable of injuring or killing any person or animal, or damaging or destroying any public or private property.
Provided that:
Where the department for good cause has authorized in writing a special recreational activity upon finding that it is not inconsistent with King County park use this section shall not apply. (Ord. 12003 § 17, 1995*: Ord. 8166 § 8, 1987: Ord. 6798 § 63, 1984).

They insisted that this applies to the KC forests such as Taylor Mountain and all KC DNR property (i.e. property that the country owns).  Looking at http://www.kingcounty.gov/recreation/parks/trails/backcountry/islandcenterforest/deer-hunt-faq.aspx there was a hunting provision for Island Center Forest that was pulled based on community response.

To clarify, there is an entry to Taylor Mt off the Issaquah Hobart Road (south of the Summit). It is my understanding you can NOT hunt this area.
There is also an enterance on the summit of Hwy 18 behind a gate that is closer to the Summit of Taylor mountain. This is not a state gate but it is my understanding you CAN hunt this area as you pass onto DNR land. Additonaly, if you go one gate further north towards i-90 there is a DNR gate that says hunting is allowed per WDFW regulations and that is the same general area.
Am I wrong or what exactly are you guys concluding about the Taylor Mt summitt area?

I think the conclusion is that the state DNR land (accessible at the summit) is allowable within gmu454.  This is also accessible further north. 

GoHunt (on wdfw.wa.gov) shows the landowner boundaries in question pretty clearly.

East of 18 past Tiger summit (going north) to I-90 youre good to go with modern firearm. You can hunt back to the Cedar River Water Shed which is east of 18 and south of 90.

Better yet there is a crap load of land to hunt north of 90 and east of 90/18 junction which is in unit 460, good timber co land.

Nobody was talking about which weapons you can use. There is a mix of private, state, and county land in the area, some allow hunting and others don't. That is what this thread was about, not which weapons you can use.

There is park land there and there is huntable land there. I live close and have hunted Taylor since the mid 80s.
You can look it up on the county web site http://www5.kingcounty.gov/parcelviewer/viewer/kingcounty/viewer.asp and you can start with the parcel viewer here.
You can identify all owners of the parcels. There is mixed ownership all over the mountain. The park area is inside the gate where Iss-Hobart Rd intersect. You don't want to hunt there.
Other areas up the mountain are not park land but they are mixed ownership and not all owners want hunting on their lands. The private owners of the other parcels are mostly corporations and LLCs. Companies like Fruit Growers Assn has been neutral in the past and they are based in CA.
The land changes hands on occasion so it is up to us to do our research.
If you call Fish and Wildlife or the local Sheriff, you will get mixed info from them. They don't all know the rules and laws of that area (and many areas for that matter). You will get the run-around and get disgusted with improper info.
The signs on the gate tell it very well - it is regulated by our hunting regulations. I would start with the regs and identify where you can use a gun and where the rifle restrictions are.
