My New Elk and Camp Hauler

I've been telling my wife that I needed to build a bike trailer for the last few weeks as I do a lot of biking while hunting for elk. Last night she casually mentioned she had seen some kind of trailer at a garage sale while out for a walk so I figure it couldn't hurt to check it out. Low and behold, not exactly what I would have built, but it was far lighter than what I probably would have gotten. It's even set up for brakes if I could figure out how to get them on my bike. I haggled with the kid and his dad for a bit. Seems the kid used it to haul a lawn mower, weed eater, etc... around the neighborhood. After finding out they were moving to Florida day after tomorrow I figured it couldn't hurt and offered him $50. Sold he said. Brought it home and my wife and I stood on it. Held us just fine. I really am surprised out how light it is and how solid it feels. Saved me the money, time, and effort of building one. Just gotta alter it a bit. Thought it was pretty good for $50.

Add another $5 for a can of olive drab spray paint and you're set!!! I'd say that was a damn fine score

The paint is going on this afternoon. For those of you with bike trailers, where and how do you put the trailer brakes on your bike?

I use a kid hauler and it has worked well, cant see how it hooks to you bike? Yours is one of the coolest ones Iv seen

I like the way they used the front forks to hold the wheels. Good Idea!

That is a great idea for compartments of your camp on wheels.  You can also put the quarters vertically in the trailer to provide air circulation.

Well I painted it, still have some orange spots underneath as I ran out of spray paint. Doesn't look too extra bad I don't think.  Had to do some highly technical engineering and fabrication - AKA Jimmyriggin -  to connect it to my bike. Yes, that is a double end box wrench being used as a hitch, at least until I can get to the hardward store after Labor Day. Towed my wife around last night with a half dozen cinder blocks, it tows great! Stopping wasn't as bad as I thought either, but I think it would be different on a downhill logging road. All in all I'm pretty pleased and I agree with TheHunt - the top bar to hang quarters from to circulate air is a great bonus. I might change the bar though so it's right in the center instead of the side.

hell looks like a great road hunting cart...you could have a few guys with arrows nocked in the back while you try and peddle them around

the only problem i see with it is weight distribution.  the wheels are set way back and leaves for overloading forward of center.  may not be so, but looks like it.  another thing is the wrench and clasps thingy isnt going to work.  with lots of weight pushing you down hill, the wrench will eventually twist around causing your tongue to go to one side of the bike. 
personally i would find a way to shorten the trailer and redo the hitch.  but with season here, thats probably out of the question.  good luck and i really hope it works for you.  any help is good help.  just be careful.
