Weather and early archery elk
« on: September 08, 2011, 07:33:38 AM »
I don't mind it sunny and clear but near record highs is not great at all!  It is supposed to hot hot hot through middle of next week now.  :bash:

Long term...Saturday afternoon through Thursday...high pressure aloft will continue over the region with a continuation of the hot and dry conditions for most of the extended period. The warmest temperatures will be on Saturday and Sunday...with possible record highs being broken. After that the upper ridge will weaken as a
Pacific weather disturbance moves into the ridge and causes it to flatten and become less amplified. This will begin a gradual cooling trend with readings dropping back down into the 80s in the lower elevations and 70s in the mountains. By the end of next week the flow aloft will be zonal westerly which will transport Pacific air into the region which will keep the cooler temperatures over the region. However...the cooling that takes place is not expected to be
dramatic.

the elk still have to breed. they're going to be using thermal cover in daytime and moving later in the evenings.  Get one located at last light and get back after him at first light.  Then be ready to haul meat like a crazyman!!!  We laid sticks across a cool/shaded spring and put the meat over the cool water while we worked.

it's not ideal, but we have to hunt despite the lousy weather.
