New to western WA, where am I going???
« on: September 10, 2011, 11:48:32 PM »
I moved to western WA about 4 months ago and I am feeling pretty confused right now! I have always hunted the east side of the state and the units over here are new to me. I'm desperate for some advice on where to go for opening day rifle Deer). I live in Issaquah so I've been looking at Unit 460 and some surrounding...but I'm at a loss. What can you guys tell me!?!?

Thanks in advance!

I dont mind hiking, as long as its on legal land!
I just love the outdoors.

like everyone else you gotta go out and put in some time in the woods, have you taken any pictures of game or game sign in the areas youve hunted? if so post them up on here

Unfortunately time is running short. Opening day is right around the corner! Like I said, always hunted Eastern WA, so I dont have pictures of anything in Western WA. I'm just looking for a place to start.

You arent alone when I started it was really hard to figure out what land was what....I still often wont even walk on land I am unsure of....been told yellow gates are this blue gates are that if its unmarked its fine...I am scared to death to tresspass so I only go where I have maps showing its ok and that was another challenge.  Good luck people are pretty tight lipped until they warm up to you.  Try the gohunt feature on WDFW its not great but is a start...I still dont know the units by number I have to pull the regs and try to synchronize to the map every time and usually I am still confused nd end up buying another gmu map just so I can try and not feel lost.  been at this 2 years now and still mostly just bumble around the woods with a gun...this year not even sure I will hunt....

Don't hunt the west side, seriously unless your looking for elk. In my opinion, blacktails are too small and too elusive to waste your time with.    :twocents:  Hunt the east side and if you strike out, then hunt the late season here on the west side if your dead set on hunting blacktails. They will be more active at that time and you'll have a better chance. Up from -1% to maybe +.005% chance of success.   :chuckle:

Can you tell I hate hunting blackies?   :chuckle: Stinking nocturnal critters!!!
