4 hour hunt first Rosie
« on: September 14, 2011, 04:56:36 PM »
Never having hunted Roosevelts, or Washington Elk, and not having a partner I found an outfitter through this site.  Glad I did:    Opening day..... hiked in before light.   When we started hunting we almost immediately disturbed a Bull who Bugled at us like crazy, problem was there was a little cliff in the way.
As I was trying to get on the same level another Bull started answering.    Both moved apart with me in the middle  (darn).  We still hunted in the direction of the first Bull.  About three and a half hours later we setup on a little saddle in the middle of the woods with Chris hidden in the bushes about 15 yards to my right, and me standing in front of a tree with a lane to my right and left and lots of trees in front.   Chris did a couple cow calls.... then I heard a branch break, bush move... saw some beige and thought deer.  Couple moments later... Bull!    He moved up the hill behind and to the left of me and stopped just 20 yards to my left  looking past me for the 'cow'.    Chris called at the right time again,
long story short  5 yard shot..  Bull still went looking for the cow and almost ran down Chris. He went maybe another 50 yards and it was over but for the work.
Not huge but pretty.
Old enough to know better.
Young enough to go for it.

All those folks who say hunting Rosies is hard must be exaggerating!

(and congrats!!)

Damn thing looks big enough for me. I would say any elk is a good elk. Congratulations on a successful hunt.

An elk is an elk and with it--meat in the freezer.  Congrats.

Congrats.  Looks like you had a great hunt.  You have a nice bow as well.
Cut em!
