Day Pack recommendations

Hey fellas, so we're gonna be off to Wyoming for the speed goat hunt, and I decided my old day pack just isn't gonna cut it anymore, its old and tired, and gets to enjoy retirement. What packs do you guys suggest? I'm thinkin not big and bulky, and maybe with a back spacer, the thing that makes it so your back doesn't sweat into the pack.. Thanks!!

archery or rifle hunt? 

I've used a pack I picked up at G.I. Joe's about five years ago and its held up like a champ through many miles of hunting and backpacking. Its called the Jim Horn Signature Series. My local Costco was also carrying a hunting pack but I didn't check it out too intently.

I have a Cabela's outfitter pack and I like it. It has the right amount of storage for a day pack and it allows you to keep your back clear so you don't sweat.

I like the Eberlestock X2.  Very confortable and breathes well in the back.  Not too bulky and enough space for all your gear, and room for meat!

Badlands Ultra-day. Its an 1800ci pack, about medium sized. Lots of pockets and very comfortable. My shoulders dont get tired like with my old packs, even under a heavier load. It also has the back spacer that you talked about, it keeps the pack away from your back and actually has a little room to put things in. I traded in my 2200 for the X2.  Think it really depends on your size and frame.  I'm short with broad shoulders, so the 2200 was kinda tall for me.  Where as the X2 is shorther and wider, and fit my build a lot better.  Both are good packs though.  Depending on where you are, head in to a Wholesale Sports and try them on and see what feels best to you.  That's what I did and how I came to my decision.

  X2 on the ultra day. Even used it on an overnight and fit enough for 2 days plus bringing out the first load of meat! Love it- no sweat on the old back!

Ok so I am 5'10" 200 lbs, I do all rifle/smoke pole hunting, plus turkey and birds. I'll have to hit up the wholesale sports in town, I just really don't like that store. not very wholesale and I know more about most the products then the folks sellin them. My thoughts are something that can be my day pack but be sturdy enough to use for a packboard for when I shoot an animal 15 miles in and don't wanna make a round trip for nothing. So far thanks for the suggestions, please keep em comin, I'm puttin it all down on paper to make a great decision

If you want to use it for packing an animal out too, some of the suggested packs probably won't cut it.

I have an Eberlestock "Just One" and I like it. I've packed a couple of deer out with it. However if I were in the market for a pack I'd look at Nimrod, which is based out of Cashmere, Wa. They make good hunting packs with a good warranty and best of all they're made in the USA.

The ultra day won't quite do all that. You'll have to look to some of the larger versions or other brands as mentioned before.

Blacks creek western is the day pack i've been running for about 4 years. Love it. pockets are great while maintaining rifle and bow scabbards. Optics pockets and adjustable for different people tall to short.

Blackhawk Three Day Pack.  Had mine issued to me about 15 years ago...used it on the job for a long time.  I'm too old and broken to do any of that high speed work related stuff anymore so it's been eating a steady abuse-filled diet of hunting and hiking duty for several years.  I can't believe how well it has held up and still maintained as-designed comfort and utility.  They're repair it for free but I've never had to send it in for anything....no rips, tears, split seams, broken buckles, or failed zippers.  Dirty and stained but otherwise works as new.  The newer version is even better then my older one.  Check out the new ones....

I too like the Blacks Creek Western when I want a smaller pack that can also carry a fair amount of meat.  It's so comfortable and has such great support for my lower back I think I actually hunt harder when it's on.  After that first 50-60# load is at the truck I switch over to the Eberlestock for some serious meat packing on the second trip.

Not sure I'd chose it over the Eberle if I was planning on going 15 miles in somewhere.
