long overdue post of wifes first deer and with a bow!
« on: September 26, 2011, 10:25:26 PM »
sorry for being so late on this post, been chasing fuzzy through the woods with my bow..
Well on Sept 13Th, the wife finally closed the deal on a nice doe. After 11 years together, this year the buck fever rubbed off on her. Suddenly the trail cam SD card would be snatched for my hands and put into her computer, her wardrob changed into women's under amour camo. my face camo was in her purse, and the alarm at 3 in the morning was for her. Gotta admit though, I think I was just as amped about it as she was.  He first day in the stand was a nightmare, I went out with her only to find out her dads Harley had been stolen that night, so with cops and all sorts of commotion no deer. The second day was much more interesting, 6 deer but no luck, day 3 the invasion of the yotes, she took a shoot on a yote but miss judged the yardage and missed. day 4 she got a flat on the way out to the stand, when i showed up to fix the tire, she threw me the keys jumped in the truck and took off for the stand, but got in late and jumped the deer on the way in. Day 5 was the golden day. Full moon the night before had me questioning the morning movement, but she was still in buck fever mode and had to be in the stand. Before i could stumble to the coffee pot she was up and out the door. I went back to bed :chuckle: . She on the other hand, climbed into the stand and within 15 minutes had two does 5 yards from her, but facing her and not giving her a chance for a shot, so she watched them for the next hour lounge around only to be joined by a 3 point buck. Still no shot with a doe directly on top of her, no chance at a draw with out being busted. The three wonder off leaving her watching and waiting for the next chance. at 715 two doe break brush 35 yards in-front of her, they drop their heads to graze around, she draws and moves the pins into postion. The arrow flys straight at the target, until it crashes into a small limb she did not see making a nice loud crack. The doe flee the area. climbing down from the stand upset that she missed her chance. looking and looking for her arrow she finds blood, quite a bit of blood. My phone goes off at 745 with a very excited wife, I get the story from her and tell her to head into her dads house and watch some tv or eat breakfast or something till i make it up there. Send the kids to the bus stop and head out. i find her pacing the house when I get there, its been just over a hour since the shot so we head out to track the deer. i have her take me to the spot where the deer were, look and look no arrow.. but i do find blood, kinda frothy almost looks like a nice lung shot where the doe is blowing it out good sign, follow the blood and find 2 bedding spots where you can see a blood outline of the doe, very good sign. 100 yards later we find the doe piled up right along a trail. the arrow hit the branch and deflected into the does jugular and slit the windpipe 1/4 way. She got away with one there, but i am damn proud of her.

Love it when the ladies get the bug to hunt, and get into the woods.

Congrats on putting meat in the freezer and filling her first tag..
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.
