Western Washington Pheasant Hunt.......
« on: October 09, 2011, 03:03:00 PM »
After living in MN my whole life until early 2010, I took Pheasant hunting for granted. Until last year when I missed Pheasant hunting for the first time since I was 12 years old (29 now). I have no do dog out here as all my buddies had dogs to hunt with in Minnesota, and I've never really "needed" a dog. Today I went Stillwater GMU by myself, with no dog; I got there a little Early so I sat in my truck drank coffee, and set my fantasy football line up via cell phone (smart phones are the best and worst thing that ever happened). Anyhow, i made my way to the "no fire zone" and was the only one without a dog. Finding a spot to start in the field was not a problem, but not having a dog it did not seem probable that I would even see a bird, let alone get a good shot at one. As I was standing there, waiting just like everyone else, an older gentleman came walking down towards me with 2 dogs; his name was Glen, I don't believe he is on this site but if he is, I just want to thank him for letting me hunt with him. I am from the midwest, and out there people don't invite you to hunt with them, but Glen walked right up to me and asked if I have a dog, I replied no, and he replied you wanna hunt with me? I was presently surprised, and the rest was just an awesome day. We got 5 birds up and got 3 of them. We would have had 4, but it went down deep in the blackberry bushes. Even the dogs couldn't get through it. Despite our age difference (over 30 years), we got along like we were long lost friends, great conversation, good stories and most importantly, we made a friendship. It makes me remember why I hunt; despite age, religion, race, and location. Good people are just good, and most of them hunt!!!!! Thanks Glen.

That's what it's all about  Good people in the pheasant fields and another good reason to keep the pheasant program going!  Yes it's a true gentleman's sport where lasting friendships are made and where dogs think they're in heaven
