My only experience was fishing at Mattoon Lake in Ellensburg.  He kind of chatted me up a bit and finally said "Hey can I see your license real quick?"

I've been checked several times while fishing/crabbing - they mainly confirmed we were legal and we went about our business.
When hunting I've been checked at the pheasant release site and while waterfowl hunting about 4 times in the last 10 years.
As has been stated; they are only doing their jobs.
In Wyoming I've been stopped or chatted with 2-3 times each year. Sometimes they didn't even ask to see our tags/guns. Just talked huntin' & BS'd.  :)

Yep, last year was my first year hunting, and my neighbor and I got checked. A bunch of wardens were set up on the road pulling people over. They checked our licenses/tags, and made sure our rifles in the truck were not loaded. I tried pumping them for info about where the deer were hiding, but they weren't particularly helpful.

Not for 10 years or so. I see them driving around in town all the time but never in the woods or on the river.

Checked years back in Winthrop during early archery.  Got checked last month just outside of Chewelah
on the way back down from bear hunting.  Nice guy, just checked our tags and licenses and asked if we saw
any muzzleloaders on top.  Didn't check our Id's or our weapons.

I was pissed but drove the 2 miles back to our camp and showed her my tags.

I would have told her to eat my shorts but I always carry my license/tags...Why would you leave them somewhere when on a hunting trip?
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

2 years ago my buddy and I had 2 deer in the back, just had gotten done gutting his 3x4 mulie near twisp, my 4x4 had been down a day.  Was early archery and we had pulled over by a field with a bunch of deer feeding, we were swapping out cell phone batteries, trying to find a match that would work.  He came up, didn't check our tags, didn't check our bucks, just asked if we were road hunting.  Was kinda funny.  We were still bloody, but he saw the phones and batteries and went on his way.

Another time we went through a checkpoint and he HAD to check our rifles, pulled my gunrack off the window.  That one was a dick.  How it goes.  :)

Try waterfowling.  You will get checked a lot if you hunt any of the public spots.  I was checked 7 or 8 times last year.  The game warden was watching everyone last Friday & Sat.

Between fishing and hunting I get checked a couple times a year. Never had an issue and I have no problem with it since they are just doing there job.
Remember that buck is climbing that Mt. every day!

Not sure if I should respond but will. I've actually had some really bad experiences with Game wardens. A couple of years ago this warden tried to get me addmitt I had shot this cow elk and was heading back up to claim the meat. They arrested me and tried like hell to get me say I done it which I had not didn't even know there was a dead cow elk up where I was hunting that day!!.
Come later on they checked my bow for it had blood on it, but it was mine because I had scratched myself on it reaching for binoculars or something. Eventually they couldn't charge me and gave me back my bow and stuff they took.
So in my opinion those that are watching us need watched after.
However for the most part I've really only just been checked for tags and licenses and no real bad issues, but this one was.
"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter

I've been checked many times.  One week a few years back we got checked 5 times in a week by every enforcement officer you could think of.  All was in the up and up but one guy just had to find something to chastise us about.  He even went and bragged to his cronies that he had harrassed my hunting party.  The next day another officer came by and appologized for the resident dick.  It was small concellation for the harrassement but at least some of those officers realize that you don't have to be a dick to do your job.  The next year we moved our camp back 25 yards into the trees and never had another issue.  I guess we were too close to a road and easy pickens.
