Well today was just like every other blue bird sky day hunting blacktail.....nothing but a hike

I found myself reaching the end of my usual hike and just made it out to the road about 300 yards down the road from where I missed the big buck on Friday. I seen a truck parked right at the edge of the clearing so I guess that ruined my plan to walk down there for the last hour of daylight. Just as I was gonna head to other direction I noticed one of the guys waving at me. I figured he wanted me to walk down there so I headed that way.
So I get down there and find a guy (richard) and his young daughter (kimberly) watching 4 deer about 200 yards against the tree line. The reason the Richard waved me down was cause they had no binoculars or scope. So I took a look and seen one of the deer was a very nice 3x4.
Then Richard told me he had already tagged out this season and there was no way Kimberly could make that shot with her 30-30 with open sights. It was her first year hunting and the first buck she has got to see all season. the look of dissapointment on her face was the saddest thing I have ever seen. So i did the only thing a person with a real heart could do in a situation like that. I politely turned down the chance to shoot what would have been my biggest buck, I smiled and handed her my rifle. We found her a nice solid rest ( the same rest I shot from Friday).
I told her not to worry about the kick of the rifle, that it kicked less then her 30-30. I told her to aim just below the top of the back right on the bucks shoulder. She took aim and squeezed the trigger. To mine and her dads shock the buck dropped in his tracks. As I turned to her to say she got her buck. She was already jumping and screaming "daddy daddy I got it, sir sir (meaning me) I got it" and ran over and gave her dad a big hug. then she turned to me and tackled me and gave me the biggest hug I have ever gotten
After the very long drag to the road and getting a ton more hugs from her and more thanks then I could ever get tired of hearing. Her and I gutted the deer with a bunch of "ew's" and "that's gross, I have to touch that"
Richard stood back and let it be her and my moment. Saying he has 5 first deer under his belt with his other kids and just being there was more then he could ever ask for. I felt really honored for that and just soaked the moment in for everthing it was worth.
this is one of, if not the best moment I have ever had the privilege to be part of.
I made sure to tell him about this site and to make sure to become a member and let kimberly tell her version of the story and post lots of pictures. They will also be emailing pics to me to post.
