Teanaway question
« on: November 17, 2011, 10:53:21 PM »
I was up scouting the teanaway last weekend and was curious if anyone knew if the area north of cle elum between town and the teanaway road is really almost all private property? My map says its mostly private property but looking at google earth it doesn't look like people are doing anything at all with it if it is. Bldgs, fencing ect. It looks like a great area with some decent roads from google and my map, but I'm just not sure.

We were able to locate a couple herds  of elk tracks in the fresh snow. The only elk we did see were of course on private property. But sure glad we were able to get a good look at them. Five bulls.... One 5x, three 6x6's and a dandy 7x. I sure hope this early snow doesn't keep up for all us guys that have late season tags. I tried taking some pics to post, but by the time I zoom and crop, they are horrible.

It's private property but much of it is open to the public. It's just kind of tricky finding a way up there because of all the new development. Look on the Kittitas County GIS map and you should be able to figure it out.

Only the back side toward the Teanaway is owned by a timber company. the front side is all private with no legal access.

Alot of it was owned by safire skys but they folded. not real hunter friendly in there. most of the elk I've seen in there are on private land .

You must not heard the recent approval of the development they are taking 300+ acres and making "north"cle elum.As far as hunting that land I wouldnt if I were you and if the snow keeps falling they will just move further into unhuntable land.

I appreciate the info. I'll be up there this weekend scouting again and was going to focus on finding
roads from the west end of town leading up on the hill. I was told its mostly private but open to hunting.
I heard they extending the city limits and by the sounds of it, I won't waste alot of time searching for
access up there. Thank you again for the heads up.

Only 2 ways up and you might wanna bring chains to get up there.

Do you think snowmobiles will be crucial this weekend for scouting? I'm definitely bringing them come hunt time, but wasn't planning on it this weekend. I was hoping the late archery guys might be plowing the roads for us.

I was in there today and there is only a few inches of snow but it is VERY crunchy and loud. Unless we get a bunch of snow or you plan on hunting really high I don't think they are needed.  :twocents:

I agree. More and more snow has fallen and sleds would be very helpful now.
