First trail cam - recommendations - and first pics!

I promised a trail camera to my dad for Christmas (because I really want one!), but I don't know which brand/model to buy.

Here are some details I am considering:
looking to spend up to $200
infrared would be nice
we are in W WA, so it must be rain-proof
my dad is a computer guy, so complicated setup is okay
video/sound not necessary

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Bushnell trophy cams are solid little units. I just got one, my old man has one and so does my buddy. They are small, easy to use and take quality pictures.

Just under 200 dollars and you will have a really nice set up.  I have been extremely pleased with mine.  I posted the link to the bear box somewhere else so search it and you will find it.  It is way better quality than the boxes bushnell sells.

Have two bushnells and both crapped out before the one year mark. Same with my cuddy back. All my moultries work great. Never a problem. Have 9 of them.  Thats the way i would go.

Reconyx or Buckeye cam: Made in the USA, most reliable and unfortunately most expensive.

I would go Primos, Moultrie or Wildgame Innovations

I would recommend buying more than one camera. You want to spend $200, so try to get two cameras instead of just one. There are good cameras for $100 and less. You might even think about getting two different cameras. The only way to know how you're going to like a particular camera is to buy one and use it. You can read all the reviews and get all the recommendations you want, but in the end you will have your own ideas as to what you like best and what works for you. So I would try to look for two cameras, in the price range of about $75 to $100 each, and get one of each. For starters look at Primos and Moultrie.

Finally got around to picking and ordering a trail cam ... we went with the Moultrie M-80.  The first 2 nights it was aimed incorrectly, but last night we got our first pictures!  Coons are a sure thing around here, so that's what I baited for.





Next we'll try for deer...

Ive had good luck with Moultrie.  I think the trophy cam's are good when they work, but I've heard about quite a few lemons.
