Granular deer attractants
« on: July 17, 2008, 03:43:49 PM »
Ive never tried any scent or attractant that you don't put on your person or a wick.  Anyone else have any luck with the granular/ powdered brands?

I use Deer Cocaine beacuse it is supposed to stimulate the mammary gland on does to produce more milk (it also promotes better antler growth). I never did see a buck using my site but I know one was there because of the rubs. Every time I would go to check it there would be at least 10 does within 200 yards of the minerals.

We use Cumere Deer up on the farm we hunt near Colville and last year the elk were comming into the meadow, so will be putting it closer to the blind this year.  Won't shoot a doe, but I WILL shoot a cow elk.  especially where I can drive the tractor up to the kill zone.

The best attractant for deer is trace mineral blocks that you buy at the feed store, a 50# block will last for months, on top of that pour a 50 pound bag of granular and you will have every deer and elk in the county at your stand. The best part is for both you are still under 20 buck, around 10 actually. If you want to put the icing on the cake dump 40lbs of Walmart deer corn around the area in a 10sq ft radius and you have made a new honey hole.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

I tried some peanut butter scented stuff from Cabelas, worked ok, but I think it's tough to beat good ol' rock salt, for deer and elk, here is an example of a salt lick photo from this year seems to be working

Exactly my point, if you keep it in the same area it will only get better year after year...
