Yamaha 8 Horse Hight Thrust
« on: January 09, 2012, 01:47:19 PM »
Double checking before I dive in.  The boat I bought came with a 2005 Yamaha 8 hp High trust, Electric start, trim, and all of this is remote.  There is not a tiller handle.  So I called the shop because I really need the kicker to be tiller and they said that there is not a Tiller you can buy to put on that motor.   :bash:  So I wanted to make sure by asking you guys before I take it all off the boat to sell it and get a tiller model.

Thanks Tyler

I am not 100% sure you can buy one and add to what you have if that one you have doesn't have one.  But I have a 2006 just like what you are talking about but with a tiller, so I would guess you should be able to put one on.  I am not sure where you are located, but I have used Auburn Sports and Marine to buy parts for mine before and they have been good about info also.  GREAT motor by the way.

I have a 2004 Yamaha 8hp high thrust p/t same motor as you. Mine has the key chain thing to steer it but had to buy it separate. I don't think you are able to add a tiller handle to yours. It is just like remote steer motor made only for remote. The housing is different. Would cost a lot of money to have it done.  :twocents:  Better off selling and finding a tiller. I love the motor!

You have the T-8 unit that does not utilize the tiller, it is not intended to be retrofitted.

I think your best option would be to sell it and purchase one with the tiller. If you still want to maintain the remote ability then you can purchase the Garmin TR1, this will allow you to use either the tiller or remote depending on how you are fishing at the time.

Beat me too it.  As I may also be interested in a trade of sorts depending upon your motor condition as I have a 2009 T-8 with tiller.  Does your motor have all the controls with it?  I have linked my motors and do not use the kicker tiller and quite honestly gets in the way.  Easier for me to keep both motors same direction when trolling, backing into a Oversized or staying on course anchored...  But it has to 25" shaft also as that is what my T-8 high thrust is.  Or let me know what your price is out the door...
