Any FJ Cruiser owners?
« on: January 24, 2012, 09:54:52 AM »
So my wife REALLY wants an FJ, and I can't say no to one. Anybody on here own one?

We drove a 2012 last weekend and really liked it inside. It fits our lifestyle and seems like it will take us further than we need to go. We wont be buying new however, so any feedback on things to look out for or years to stay away from? I'm hoping that when we do pull the trigger it will be under 50k miles. We aren't in a hurry to buy one, but it most likely will be what we get. Just looking to gather any feedback any owners or previous owners might have.

Thanks!  :hello:

Can't go wrong with Toyota. Higher mileage = better deals. Sure itll have high miles, but its a Toyota ;)

Just clicked over to about 6k on mine. I've got green with a white top, black mag wheels, side steps. Love it. It is a great kid hauler, pulls my boat, great last week in the snow and slush. No complaints at all.

By the way........if you get serious I can refer you to a fella in my neck of the woods. I bought mine at Magic Toyota as was treated very well. Granted.....I'm in the car biz so being on the inside helps quiet a bit.

Glad it's a good kid hauler for ya. That's what we are hoping for, no kid's yet, but the plan is no more than two.

When we get really serious I'll let ya know. As of right now, this is the vehicle we are after. Now it's just a matter of making sure we have our finances how we want them before we purchase a vehicle.

I've been browsing tons of sights for these things ever since she told me it's what she wanted and I get more excited every time about the possibilities of this vehicle. Every person seems to love them.

I will tell one thing. We were a little concerned about the swing doors opening in the opposite direction and being pretty small. Once the car seats are in it is a breeze for the kids to get in and out of. Since there is no carpet on the floor it cleans up easy. Seats as well. It is not a cushy sport yute for the soccer mom. It drives stiff like it should. The first time I drove over the little curb into the cul de sac I about knocked my self out whacking my head. Also, don't bother with used. From my research it is a loss to spend a few grand less (like only 2 or 3k) to get one with 30k miles than buy new.

I'll try and remember to post you a pic up this evening. Check back on the thread after 8 pm or so. I'll see what I can do.

How much does boat weigh? Double axle or single?  Tongue weight?  Can you personally lift the front of your tongue? Curious on how it does, as I have been toying with this same ideal in the past several months.  Not really super concerned with it pulling, it is the emergency stop that I want know if it can handle and the purposing of the rear...  Thx...

Does not surprise me that you know a "fella".... :chuckle:
Swanny go and take a good long test drive in one, the one thing i did not like was the bad blind spot, other than that i loved it....
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

Single axle, 18 ft Norht River Seahawk. I can lift the toungh but would strain. Stops fine. I've had some quick slow downs on the trestle heading to Everett. I think the boat, trailer, fuel, beer......maybe around 3k?

Wonder if the dealer would let me hook up for a test run???  I want a another vehicle but to justify, I got to be able to pull it in the event I sell my Duramax down the line...  As i might be getting a storage spot in Washougal to store the boat in the summer and of course have  friend I might be able to store it for Ocean stuff at Sekui, so pulling each and every time wouldn't be done...

Just don't tell the dealer. Make like you are dead serious and just ask to test one for an overnight. Take it home, hook er up, have drive. One of the big advantages over what I was using (2000 Mits Montero Sport) is the eng size is a 4.0 compared to a 3.0, has much more torque, and VVTI...a world of difference from what I was using for a grocery getter kid hauler. I need to get off my arse and post some pics of mine. It got just a bit muddy at the range this weekend.

I have been flipping a coin over that or a four door Jeep, now I know the Jeep wouldn't even attempt the tow, but heard the FJ do rather well in that regard...  FJ's are differently beefer and of course get the Toyota reliability out of it..
