HSUS and Friends Find Another Defeat in California

On Friday, March 9th, following an intense lobbying campaign by the California Outdoor Heritage Alliance (COHA) and many of its members and partners, Assembly Member Ben Hueso (D-79th/San Diego) dropped his bid to remove California Fish and Game Commission President Dan Richards from his seat on the Commission.  This according to a report by COHA in its Field Wire newsletter.
 
In a letter to Governor Brown, Assembly Member Hueso and Assembly Speaker John A. Perez (D-46th/Los Angeles) stated that they instead have decided to work on introducing legislation which would "improve the standards and practices of the California Fish and Game Commission". Among other things, the bill will reportedly include a revised conflict-of-interest code for commissioners.
 
Last month, animal-rights interests –led by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), and including Audubon and Sierra Club chapters—launched an all-out campaign seeking the removal of Richards.  At the center of the controversy was a photo in a hunting magazine of Richards' with a mountain lion he legally harvested on a recent hunt in Idaho.
 
During an early March meeting of California’s Fish and Game Commission in Riverside, California, scores of hunters, anglers and firearms enthusiasts arrived to support Richards. Only a handful of animal rightists were present at the event in a losing effort.
 
The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance is proud to have played a part to defeat the effort to remove Commissioner Richards.  This campaign is an example of how powerful sportsmen can be when united.

I hope all concerned hunter conservationists take a look at joining the US Sportsman's Alliance. It's a great organization with important updates and a fast growing membership base. Good work putting these self-righteous jerks in their place.

I am glad I was able to write a letter to Assembly Member Hueso and Assembly Speaker John A. Perez. Atleast our voices were heard.
Then to have them make the statement of "improve the standards and practices of the California Fish and Game Commission". Among other things, the bill will reportedly include a revised conflict-of-interest code for commissioners.
This street goes both ways.

That's great news! 

There's another clear message here.  If we can continue to get the factual information out to our membership regarding threats and attacks on our hunting heritage, our rights related to firearms, our personal property rights, and threats to valid and unbiased science-based wildlife management, we can effectively push back against the radical extremist groups and individuals that want to take these freedoms from us.

I hope all of us are taking note of how extremely important it is for each and every one of us to get involved in these battles.  We will not be successful unless there is a unified effort.

The message is: Stand up for what you believe in!

I wonder what these 2 are going to cook up eh? God forbid you should actually have a hunter heading up a fish and game dept.

I wonder what these 2 are going to cook up eh? God forbid you should actually have a hunter heading up a fish and game dept.

Yes it sounds like they intend to change the rules so that a person who is a hunter will not be eligible to be a part of the Fish & Game Commission.

We should watch very closely, and react quicky, if they try to introduce legislation that would prevent Commissioners from legally hunting.  Hunting is NOT a conflict of interest.

The commission is also doing some behind the scenes stuff too!

They vote in May to change the way the president of the commission is selected.  Instead of seniority it will be by vote so it looks like the antis will get their person as president of the CA F&G commission.  The president determines the agenda and speaks for the commission.

Politics is a never ending whirlpool. At least hunters won the first round and CA still has a hunter on their game commission. We may need the same support here in WA someday again. The last time I put out a call for help from other states, Big Game Forever stepped up and responded with a main page letter writing campaign that delivered thousands of messages to our wildlife commission regarding the wolf plan.

We all are helped by helping each other....
