Mice beware: Mousers on duty...
« on: March 25, 2012, 06:12:39 AM »
We had this group of 8 jakes that stick together, the last few days it's only been 7, I'm not yet sure if one died or if he is staying with some of the hens now.

Yesterday my wife was watching the 7 jakes. One of them caught a mouse and pretty quick they were all throwing it in the air and playing with it. Pretty soon one of them threw it in the air and on the way down he opened his mouth and the mouse disappeared. Later on she saw them find a bigger mole, they played with it a while and then pecked it apart and consumed it too. :yike:

I didn't know that turkeys were mousers...  :chuckle:

Turkeyzilla!!!
Lord , we've been here on days before
and often times you've let me score
Now do you think that on this day
you could send a gobbler down my way?
And , if not , just let me say--
you've given me another day
to hunt the bird I love the best.
I don't mind sharing with the rest

When I was a kid we raised chickens and they would go nuts over mice. Whenever we would catch a mouse my brother and I would toss it to them and watch them tear them apart. They were better mousers then any cat that I had. When one chicken had the mouse the others would chase it to try to get from them.

I took this photo pretty early this morning, sorry my camera didn't do so well, the master mousers just come off the roost early in the twilight. Now there are 5 of them trying to act like toms.  :chuckle:

With no cats at my residence, might explain why I do not have a mouse problem. I like it.

I love watching them get into their skirmish lines in the fall after the grass hoppers - one turkey will get ahead of the line and will catch hell from the others haha
