Goat cam pics (rutting goats and winter goats on camera!)
« on: March 25, 2012, 10:28:03 PM »
I've been hoping to get a good goat cam up for years now and finally found a spot that was good for it.  Unfortunately, the spot is tough to access, especially in the winter as it is deep in the Mt. Baker Wilderness.  I was able to ski into the spot this last weekend and was really happy with some of the pictures I got.  In addition to the cougar pics I posted earlier, I did get some AWESOME goat pics!

Even though I've never personally seen a billy this low on the mountain, I got some really nice billies on the camera in November.

I even got some rutting action on camera!

The billies then hung out in that spot for another couple of weeks.  Living in that snow would not be easy!

Notice the classic rutting billy dirty rump.

And all clean post rut.

From mid-December to mid-March there were no goats in the spot.  Then the nannies show up in the spring as they get ready to give birth.

I did get some pics of the goats when we went in to check the camera.  I'll try to post those pictures after I do some editing.  Hope you enjoyed the goat cam pics.  Not every day you get good goat pics during the rut or on a trail cam period.

Those are great pictures, thanks for posting. You should put a second camera in that same location, or nearby, to make the trip in there even more worthwhile. Maybe even a camera on the same tree set for video instead of photo. Just an idea.

I could easily put 3 or 4 cameras in that location if I had that many.  If anyone has any they want to donate just let me know!   :IBCOOL:

Oh, I thought everyone that had trail cameras had at least ten or twelve.   :chuckle:

It's a SpyPoint camera I purchase on clearance from Camofire.  First camera I ever purchased and I couldn't be happier!  I put the camera in in October and checked it for the first time in late March and the batteries still read full charge!

I don't know which model it is, but it runs on 6 C batteries.  I'm just using normal Duracell batteries from Costco.  Had 183 pictures on it and no battery drainage at all.  My elk cam is a Spypoint as well that runs on 6 AA batteries and I haven't changed the batteries going on 18 months now.  Still reads full charge.

That's awesome battery life especially being that it was during the coldest months of the year.
