The free Parking Pass provided with hunting/fishing license
« on: April 12, 2012, 11:30:54 PM »
I was wondering where exactally I can go and park with this pass. Is this only certain boat launches and wdfw land? Is it dnr land too? Is it park land too? Just wondering where I can go with this pass.

All water access sites and land that is owned ty the Department of Fish and Wildlife.

It is not good for DNR lands, you need the Discover pass for that.

All water access sites and land that is owned ty the Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Owned, operated, and managed by WDFW. There are DNR (and some federal lands) lands within WDFW Wildlife Areas. All of the lands within WDFW wildlife areas you can use either the WDFW or Discover Pass, even if it is owned by DNR.

Many people think that WDFW Wildlife Areas are 100% owned by WDFW, that is false. In fact in some areas the entire wildlife area is owned by an agency other then WDFW, WDFW just manages it....

I'll bet that next year there won't be any free WDFW parking passes, only Discovery Passes. One clue is that the signs at boat launches would only take a stroke of a paint brush to erase the reference to to the WDFW pass on the sign. Maybe there will be a discount on the Discovery Pass purchased with a license.

I would also like to point out that on the Go Hunt WDFW tool it does not show the difference between the different kinds of state land for boat launches, and as far as i can tell the difference between the kinds of state land. DNR, WDFW, or Parks.  :twocents:

People just need to use the dnr lands that are "isolated or remote" and no discover pass is required. But I guess it's hard to avoid using the 1.9 million acres where it is required.

The Discover Pass is required on ALL DNR lands

actually i'm looking at a dnr map right now saying different, 1.2 million acres where it is not required. isolated or remote sections, meaning you'd probably have to access it from an easement or pass privately owned timber lands that are open to the public.

The law was changed in March. You now need the pass for ALL DNR lands. The map you provided is for 2011. Here is the "new" map: http://www.dnr.wa.gov/Publications/amp_rec_discover_pass_statewide_map.pdf

i wonder why it is still up on their website. that is just uncalled for. i printed it out yesterday and was happy. i will still use it as an excuse for why i don't have a discover pass while using these lands. :dunno:
