It wasn't a 1 on 1 guide there were 4 others with my dad. So 2 guide and 5 hunters? I can't remeber fully but I thought he was gone for about a week. Maybe he got a deal with the group. I know he wasn't planning on doing it a buddy called him and asked if he wanted to go. He had a month to get his passport and get ready to go. So maybe the group ate some costs idk. He didn't get a giant moose by any means.

So I was looking it looks like it is about 4-6000 depends on what outifitter you go with.

Yes I think $5000 is about average with some hunts going for up to $10,000.

I hope lots of people think $15 is too much and it's not worth it. Makes my odds better!   :IBCOOL:

most all of the outfitters that i talked to whose price was under 6000 basically told me you shoot the first bull you see. there were some real dinks in their picture albums. i ended up going further north to an area with triple brow rule and the hunt ill cost 7500 plus tags. but their bulls average 48-56 wide. if you want a moose hunt that has decent odds and relatively cheap think about applying in idaho.

$15 a pop for each species for such a slim chance at drawing is pretty much a rip off.  It'll now cost $45 just to apply for OIL species, 99% of people won't draw in there lifetime.  It's sad that points have become like crack cocaine to the modern hunter, we'll do whatever it takes for that next shot at a great tag.

Say it takes a guy 20 years to finally draw an OIL tag; then he would have spent $900 on permit application fees.  On top of that, he'll be paying over $300 for the tag.  That's over $1,200 spent to go get an OIL species in this state.  Might as well save up some money and go out of state or out of the country and get a moose (and quit contributing to the money grabbing WDFW)............ :twocents:

What does it cost to go to Canada for a moose? :dunno:  I think I should go to BC in a few years and quit feeding money to WDFW.....

The thing most people don't realize is that with the number of applicants in our state for the OIL tags, your odds of getting drawn are going down every year even as you accumulate points. The only way our odds will ever go up is when there are less applicants or significantly more tags. I think the increased price is a very calculated move by WDFW. They are trying to discourage people from applying while still keeping revenue even.

Believe it or not I also think they are worth more than that, heck if they were 3,ooo dollars I would pay for it.

Oh come on, $3000? Why would anyone pay that when you can hunt moose in Idaho for $2000 as a non-resident?

Because the moose hunting in WA is much better if you care about killing a trophy.

You have to be kidding me if you think that $200, only if successful is going to even keep one person from applying.

I don't know about that but chances are a person will never get drawn in Washington. In Idaho, from what I've heard, you can expect to draw a moose tag in 5 years or less.

Some draw the first time they ever put in.

I can tell you if a moose tag in this state was $3000 I would not be applying. Not because I think it's not worth it, but because I don't have the money. And I'm sure there would be a lot more people just like me who would not apply at that price.

I am thinking full body mount on a rock cliff over looking the goat.

I can put the cougar across the room like he is preparing for the stalk on both of them.   :chuckle:
