Considering a 2012 Silverado 1500 LT

Hi all,
I would like to hear your opinion on the 2012 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT.  I drive a F-150 for the last 6 years and love it.  It's time for a change.  What do you think?  Do you have a Chevy?  How do you like it?  How does it preform in the woods?? Thanks!!!

  1999, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010, all red. Love em. 18 mpg over all, 22-23 on freeway. I can drive to Arizona and feel like hunting when I get there. no problems, no repairs over 100k on all of them. price is very competitive and resale is easy. work good for me off road, pulled three trucks out of the snow this winter, but then some guys can get anything stuck!! mine is 5.3 liter, 6 speed automatic, 4x4 extra cab, 1500 LT all kinda options. trailer towing package.

I bought a new 1500 in 2000 with 8 miles on it.  It now has 202,000 on it with no problems.  Make sure you go with a 5.3.  I almost bought a 6.0 1500 a couple of weeks ago but talked to my mechanic and he said that the 1500 brakes and such just aren't up to towing much and suggested that I go with a 2500, so that is where I am going next.  Frankly, I have a truck that runs and is still in great condition and I just can't justify writing the check.

I have a 2002 Silveardo with the 5.3, bought it with 70k, almost at 160k now with nothing but normal maintenance, a fuel pump and a starter. Both were well over 100k before they were replaced.

I'm like 300rum..have 198,000 on my 96 and only have had to change the starter. Can't wait to get a new one but am going to wait until this one is done.

Dad has a 2011 crew cab LTZ Z71. 5.3 liter w/ 6 speed.  Has a little over 7000 miles and the average fuel consumption is 16.9 mpg. That's with occasional towing (2 place snowmobile trailer or utility trailer).

I've had a 97', 04', 06'. Finally just traded the 06' in on a new Tacoma. Got sick of problems. 04 and 06 got pretty fair fuel mileage with the 5.3 and had plenty of power but I ran into problems with both. Mainly minor, sensors, oil/fluid leaks, etc. I do have a lot of family with the same rigs and most have been great.


Bottom line is most are good, some are bad, cross your fingers.

I have had an 88,92, 95 & 07all with no issues. Got ride of the 07 after a couple years do to the payments. Still have the 95, 190k on it & its been an awsome truck. Still drive it every day. Changed the waterpump at about 150k, the egr valve at around 170k and put on a new alternator this past hunting season. That is all with a 6" lift & 35" tires. I dont think I will ever get rid of it.
Not saying that Chevy is the best thing out there, I just have had great luck with every one I have had. I did have some A/C troubles with the 02 but its was under warranty & was mechanicaly solid.
I used to argue with guys about which brand of truck was the best, but over the years have come to the conclusion that you get what you get & you either get a truck that is a good solid runner or one that has its issues, no matter what brand you choose. I have friends, family members & coworkers that have had issues with every brand of truck out there, I have just had some good ones & never got a "lemon".

wiat till next year and save yourself 15k  there is no truck out there worth what they want! Let someone else take the hit of driving it off the lot!

Well, I have been driving the Ford for almost 6 years and he has treated me good, however, It starting going down hill, my Ford left me stuck up the Mt. for the first time last week, after a $3000 towing bill I want it gone and switch.
