Rock Chucks out in force
« on: May 02, 2012, 08:50:31 PM »
Went out today with a friend for some rust shaking and rock chuck population control. Cloudy and a little windy, but still managed to get 7. Forgot the range finder, but turns out we were under estimating yardages (sometimes severely) for the longer shots. Most were around 200, but the longer ones on 2 of the kills, that we estimated at around 350, we stepped off at 470 yds. Hopefully will have videos up soon. Had a couple acrobats. :)

Sounds like a blast ...I had a place years ago in Winthrop ..when I first went there for the first time I burned almost 100 rounds in my .243 ..But they sold the property and took out all the rock piles .....I used to have some serious fun back then ....

Prerry much anywhere on the east side where there is rockpiles, sagebrush, and grass or other vegetation for them to feed on. They tear up the edges of wheat and alfalfa fields pretry bad if given the chance.

Went out again today to try some new loads for the .270. brought the rangefinder and turns out we were closer than we thought on guestimating ranges (don't know what happened when we stepped it off) Long shots last week were around 340. Today my friend brought his. 308 to try a new load as well. First chuck went down at 446 yds, then each of us took one off the same rock st 629 yds! Took a few shots to get the wind figured out, but what a rush knocking something over at that range. Still working on the video. Will hopefully have it up early next week.
