According to Dave Ware, the decisions were based on harvest statistics.

Do they check the dates of the kill? If the majority are being killed toward the end of the season do they back the season up to avoid those dates?

No the season dates are rotating so that early archery will always have two weekends. The lastest seasons we can have is 8-20 and the earliest, 2-14.

Okay which is it, they were set "based on harvest statistics" or "so that they always have two weekends"?

We lost two days a few years ago and the season was set earlier because of harvest statistics, according to Mr. Ware. It rotates because it always ends on Sunday, giving archery two weekends. So, both. Don't argue with me. Call the DFW. I'm just reporting what I was told.

the season was set earlier because of harvest statistics, according to Mr. Ware.

How do statistics dictate when the season is going to be, unless they take into account the dates of the kills if the season remains two weeks long, as it has been for years? I can see them adding or removing days based on "harvest statistics" but moving the season dates forward or backward should not be dictated by the harvest numbers, unless they do indeed take those kill dates into account.

Don't argue with me.
Who's arguing, I'm asking serious questions. Is your word the final say so on this forum?

It takes a certain number of days for each user group to reach an approximate success level that is set by the WDFW.  Right now, for archers thats 13 days.   Used to be more.   If they put the season in July, it would probably be more.  Putting it in the early stages of the rut probably increases the chance for success and thereby reduces the number of days.  If the success rate needs to rise, they will extend the season and shorten it if needed to reduce success.  Pretty simple, works for all user groups.

That actually makes sense! Thanks!

According to other posts, it moves because of the Holiday and not harvest stats. They took away the days for that. Then they gave hunts to MF hunters during the prime of the runt but did not provide Archers any permits to hunt during that time. I still believe this has more to do with money than anything else. Archers need to push for solid dates.. they can still give two weekends without moving the dates that much.

So would all you guys be happy if the dates were set at the 8th-21st each year, regardless which day of the week it started and ended on?
