Heading out of Seward this weekend!
« on: May 24, 2012, 07:29:04 PM »
I'm hoping to have a good write up when I get back. Two buddies and I are taking his 28' out of Seward this weekend for 3 days. Hoping to pick up three limits of halibut, get into the fresh reds and a bunch of bears. Season was changed in the area we are going to three bears and year round. Did a fly over couple days ago and seen 15 bears in one hidden slough.  It's kind of a last minute hunt/fishing trip but should be a blast! I'll post pics when I get back.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Good luck out there thats a great area!! Always amazes me going thru the tunnel there.

It was a great trip besides the weather  :chuckle: We ended up with a bunch of nice halibut around the 25 lb range. Couldn't get a big one to save our selves. (weather was to bad to go the 40 mi out we usually do to get to our barn door hole) I must of released 50 yesterday. Besides butts we got our limits of bass and I picked up a nice 25 lb yelloweye.

As for bears we seen 3 just off the rd on the way down to Seward but decided to leave them alone, didn't want to postpone our trip on the water. We hunted the first night and spotted a couple but couldn't get the boat into the beach because the surf was roaring! We ended up seeing 6 in the two days we spent on the water but the 15-20' rollers along with the 15-20 knott winds kept us from even thinking of beaching the boat. Besides bears we seen grays, orcas, propoises, sea lions, seals, otters, and about 100 goats! Good trip besides the nasty seas, kept 99% of the people off the water so we had it too our self. Put 150 miles on the boat and blew $280 in fuel but worth every penny!

Still sounds like a great trip, to bad about not being able to beach the boat. Sounds like there was some bear's in the area!

I drew that goat hunt a few years ago when I lived in Kenai (I ate my tag that year though).  For scouting we took one of the sightseeing cruises with a buffet and waited until we got to the area we were interested in.  It made for some easy scouting.  I always wanted to go to Montague for deer.
