are ar15's legal to use for deer?
« on: May 31, 2012, 10:58:06 AM »
Thought I'd ask. If its a 243 I would think it'd be okay but didn't know if other rules apply. Wanting to buy a coyote gun and it'll most likely be a bolt action but it got me thinking about this.

Oly Arms makes several AR15's in deer calibers..

243 WSSM
.25 WSSM
.30 OSSM

All very lethal...

The .25 WSSM gives you .257 Roberts +P velocities... would make an awesome combo predator/deer gun out to 400 yards with a good barrel.   Ammo can be bought off the shelf, but as always, reloading will give you your best value.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

I plan on using my .450 bushmaster for deer in the brush.

As been mentioned, .243 caliber or higher is good.  No restrictions on magazine capacity either, only it be NOT full auto, then your GTG.

You will, however experience dirty looks from other hunters who are not aware that your rifle is a .243 because when they see the black rifle their brain is on auto mode and think that it is a .223/5.56

You can use your AR .223 in Montana if you want.

Yup no round limit.  Page 76 of the regulation # 11 only state that NO full auto firearm.

I used a 20 round magazine last year and I had no issues.

5 round limit went away several years ago, but I'm pretty sure I remember that used to be the case here.
