What have you forgotten on your trips?
« on: June 06, 2012, 04:03:15 PM »
I was headed out tonight on a couple mile trip, and I figured you've all been there.  What did you forget while you were packing; only to get into the woods to find that your forgot xxxxxxxx.
Bring a GPS!  It's awkward to have to eat your buddies!

One time i drove over the mountains really late at night to meet some guys for a duck hunt at dark thirty. Well when  i left i grabbed my one of many camo gun cases, shooting bag, waterfowl bag etc. When we arrived at our spot, I got all ready to go, waders on, jacket hat gloves etc. Slung my ammo bag over my shoulder unzipped my case and realized i brought my 410 insted of my Benelli 12ga :bash: :bash:

Better question is what haven't I forgot.  Bear tag opening day of bear season, and yes I had a really nice blonde/cinamon come with in 50 yards. Ugh. Left all my black powder at home and only had enough for 1 shot. Passed up on a decent muley at about 40 yards.. list goes on. I've forgot tents, stoves, gas for the saw, sleeping bags. rain gear (while on the high hunt.) What can you do but laugh, and hopefully learn to slow down while packing  :chuckle:
I read it on the internet, its gotta be real

I have hunt specific gear lists that have been laminated so I can check and double check items with a marker as I pack them and when I am all done I just wipe the marker off with a wetwipe (i have 2 kids I use wet wipes for everything).  You name it I have forgotten it, hence the lists!  I make lists of the lists I need to make!  It is good therapy to keep the brain occupied before a big hunt!  My wife says I'm borderline OCD.
It is foolish and wrong to mourn these men.  Rather, we should thank god that such men lived.  -General George S. Patton

the only things i've never forgotten are;

rifle/shotgun
rangefinder
bow/arrows/release
tags
my lucky hunting hat

everything else i've forgotten at least once,

on a deer hunt a few years ago i rushed out of the house after classes in shorts, sneakers and a safety orange roadwork shirt went to stalk some deer in a cut wheat field, i was bloody from the knees down didnt honestly think wheat stubble could be that sharp.
