where do you keep your mouth reeds?

Where do you keep your mouth reeds when you are hunting? I have kept mine in napkins, pockets, the container they came in, plastic bags, my mouth, etc., but I know there has to be a better way to keep it clean vented ( to dry out), not to soggy,and accessible. Whats your trick?

I keep mine in the hard plastic containers that some of them come with. They stay in the front pocket of my shirt.

In my mouth... i always have a small bull/cow reed in my mouth. I keep one other cow reed in the primos box it came with in my pocket... ive never needed more rhen those two...

For anyone that keeps their reed in their mouth full time, do you have any problems with it getting to limber, or soggy, to the point it detracts from its sound? I've had that problem, but I'm new to using a mouth reed ( this will be my second season with a lot of practice in between) so I'm not sure if its a technique problem, or the mouth full time is not a good way to go for me.

i keep them in a primos plastic ventelated case.  one time i didnt have it and had to keep it in my mouth but it just got soft and like deteriorated on the edges. could have to do with my adhd kicking in and i started chewing on it

A lot of times I will have two reeds in my mouth during a setup.  The one not In use gets tucked in my cheek.

Before the economy went south I hunted every single day of the spring turkey season year after year. I normally keep a reed in my mouth for hours at a time each day, sometimes I wore out 2 or 3 in a season, it does take a toll on them. Last year and this year is the first time I have ever gotten two seasons out of one reed for many years, mostly because I did not get to hunt as much as usual.

Essentially elk and turkey reeds are the same thing, I've even used one for the other. Even though I don't use a mouth reed much in elk season, I would expect the same with an elk reed.

Almost forgot to mention, I had a hunter from MS this year who keeps his reeds in a small container with mint mouthwash. He says it kills the bacteria which breaks down the latex and they taste good when you put them in your mouth even after sitting for weeks.

Bearpaw- that is really interesting, might just have to try that one!

when im moving and not set up i tend to move it around alot. i keep it on the outside of my mouth and bite down on the edge while i hike and that keeps it dry. ive never had a problem with it being too wet..  sry...

I like the Berry coin purse.  They make no noise and are ventilated.  Haven't needed to try anything else.  I have one I've used since the late 80's and still works great.  I don't see them on his website anymore so I'm not sure if he still carries them.  They were only about $2.50 each and available in red and brown.

Very true! I stuff paper towel in between the reeds so they don't bang against the plastic.
