if you've got some cash, klickers land holds good bulls.  not sure what they're charging these days.

I have been hunting this unit (unit 154) for the last 3 years and its because of a friend that invites me to elk camp every year. I know that most of the land is private so with that being said I was wondering if any of you guys have leads for me on how to obtain a permission from a land owner or how to find out who owns certain land, I respect the land owners and I dont want to cross bounderies if I dont have permission. A grid coordinate to a bull elk would be awesome also. just kidding. Any help would be tressured by your trully. Thanks and have a great season.

Elsworth (Elsy) Conover owns most of Jasper MT and will probably let you on.  he is getting up there in age and his son Larry is doing most of the ranching.  In my experience they have always let big bull hunters on their place.  They live on Wilson Hollow Rd just outside of Waitsburg.  My buddies daughter drew the tag last year with no luck but didnt give it the time and effort it deserved.

Dvolmer,

Thanks for the info. My camp for the last 3 years was at Conover's ranch. I must say that the Conover's hospitality is second to none. I am hoping to camp in the same area with my crew. Do you know anyone in the area that is letting hunters  hunt their property? Maybe a little higher than Jasper Mtn. Thanks again for the info.

I broke down this year and got a GPS.  I am a technology idiot myself but purchased a Garmin Montana 650-T.  I bought the chip for Washington State from GPS Maps with all of the land owners names and boundries.  It shows all of the State, Fed, and public land also.  It was easy for even me to figure out so just about anybody can do it.  The Blue Creek area is full of public land.  Some of the landowners will give you permission if they find out you have the big bull tag.  Some of postings done by Private ownership is done in a very tricky way to make the hunter feel he cant access an area when he actually can.  they will post there corners in a way that makes it look like everything is off limits when some of it may be public.  the GPS is the way of the future for hunters to find public land and access it.  A lot of Private owners get what I call the "Ownership Syndrom"  where they feel that the public land next to them is theirs and they try to control it.  Even if they are leasing it from whatever agency for ranching or farming they can't keep the public hunter out.  They will make up phoney claims that if they have just one cow grazing the property or whatever that they can keep you out but it simply is not true.  Blue Creek area you will find out with the right GPS and chip is posted improperly in a lot of places by Private people who own some land but not near as much as what they would like you to believe.  With this once in a lifetime great tag you have drawn do your homework and you will have plenty of places to hunt.  Talk to Glenn Smith.  He lives outside of Waitsburg and owns a lot of land.  I cant speak for him but if you seek him out early and tell him what you have drawn it might be worth your time.  he ownes and controlls alot of land around there and up the Coppei.

Taxsifter, Taxsifter, Taxsifter, it will tell you everything you need to know.  Not every county has one lucky Walla Walla does.  Black Snake, Biscuit, Lewis Peak.  The 3 weekends you have to scout  I would spend getting permission rather than looking for elk in a partuclar spot, 9 times out of 10 they won't be in the same areas you found them in, especially after modern deer season.

Big Mike

I forgot to tell you that my wife drew Dayton A Big bull so we wont be far from ya.  My best friend drew the Watershed big bull, my two daughters and brother drew Manastash cow tags, my son drew the youth Silver Dollar Hanford cow tag, and by best friends (guy that drew the Watershed) brother drew a cow tag in Dayton.  So we will be busy this fall along with my son and brother who also drew blue mt foothills late rut rifle buck tags.  Than the Sunday (last day of general elk season) we head to the Sweetgrass hills to hunt deer and antelope in Montana for a week and than back to the Bitterroot's in Montana Thanksgiving week to hunt elk in unit 270 that we drew out on.  Busy Busy Busty.  Why cant there be more weeks in Oct and Nov.  You will love your Blue Creek hunt.  In 2006 myself, daughter, brother, and tow of my best friends,  got 5 of the 13 big bull tags for Dayton.  I shot a typical 358 6X6, my brother shot a non-typical 7X8 396 bull, my daughter shot a typical 316 bull, and my buddy shot a 336 6x7.  We had to eat one of the tags and that was really hard to do.  It was the year of the big burn and we shot most of them right in the black burnt area.  In 2007 I took my best friends worker who drew a Dayton tag with only 2 points in and he shot a 7x7 I would guess scores around 310.  Than my oldest daughter (I have 6 girls and one son) that drew the Dayton tag in 2006 drew a bull tag with only 2 points for the Observatory area above Ellensburg (Manastash GMU) and she got a nice 6X6 on opening morning scoring around 285.  I am new to this forum and just signed up a few weeks ago.  I will try to get some pictures posted soon.  If I knew how to do it I would but my kids will have to help me.  Like I told you, My hunting buddies daughter drew the Blue Creek tag last year but do to him fighting cancer and her schedule they didnt get one.
