Yep I got the same letter for my son and I am not sure how its going to work out yet.  I am going to have to try to make something happen since this is his last year as a youth hunter.  So no point in turning it back in for the points for him since it would be in the youth category and he can't put in for youth tags anymore.  Thats our game department for you... :bash: :bash:

:yeah: I put my nephew in for this hunt and he was also drawn. Isn't the 29th the youth bird hunt also? Not a tough choice for me but he looks forward to the bird hunt every year. What the hell is wrong with the WDFW.
Shut up and Hunt!

That's a bunch of crap. . . If they mistakenly list tag dates and don't get them corrected BEFORE the draw then they need to live with their mistake. . . I know last year my buddies sheep tag season was changed post draw as well.  >:(

Yeah I'm trying to figure out what to do for my 13 year old cousin who drew the Skookumchuck doe permit. I put him in for it so he could hunt the weekend before general season. It was supposed to start on October 6th, now they changed it to October 13th. I didn't really want him to hunt in that crazy Vail cluster**** that happens on opening weekend. I might just have him turn the permit in and get his points back. I really hoped he could kill a doe this year since he's never killed a deer before.

No they didn't move it a week ahead to be the same as the general season.  They moved it another week back, so its 2 weeks before the general season.  Opening date is on Sept. 29th.  Well hold on, (I was just thinking you said your cousin has the doe tag) my son drew the any buck tag in the Skookumchuck and I am looking at the letter they sent us and the new dates for his hunt are Sept. 29th to Oct. 6th.  So for the doe tags they moved it up to be the same as the general?????

Other than screwing up vacation, I'd be happy, better chance at a good buck.

Still trying to decide if I should take my cousin to Vail for his first deer, or try to get him on one in some of the less crowded areas that are also in the Skookumchuck unit. I know of several places that we could walk into, but I don't believe they have the number of deer like there is in the Vail area.

I haven't been out there for at least 15 years. Anyone know if it has gotten better, or worse?

last year when we were working up there in hunting season it was a real pain for us just to get in around all the hunters. I live on the coast and there is a ton more deer there but the pressure is ridiculous.

Bobcat I hunt it every year and The number of people is rediculous! But if you go and get as far in there as you possibly can, it starts to thin out. I usually try to get as far back in there as possible before finding a good place to do a drive or glass a cut or walk the timber. I go there every year especially if I only have a half of a day to hunt. I keep hoping that I am going to get a shot at a nice buck but I still have yet to see a monster. Had a chance at a respectable buck last year but I couldnt get an ethical shot. If your cousin is looking to shoot a legal buck I would highly recommend it. If you want some more info PM me. You seem like a respectable guy I wouldnt mind sharing some info with.
