Clamming Please Help
« on: June 22, 2012, 08:15:06 PM »
Going camping next week around the Port Angeles area (Salt Creek).  Looking at the regs. it appears that clamming is open year around.  I have not done this since I was a kid, and now I need to show my kids. Help!  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciate.

Id call wdfg personally and tell them what beaches you are going to. They will be able to tell you right then if the quality of the water/toxins levels of the beaches are safe or not.  :hello: Have fun and eat a raw one! :chuckle: :puke:

I can't really recall any good spots to clam over there.  Most of the area I remember is rock or bluff except the western beach.  I didn't think it was big enough to really hold clams.  There's fish around the bridge.  The old guy on the private property across the bridge is really serious about it...he chases people (mostly surfers) off with his shotgun.   There's some old coastal defense stuff near the campground, deer that almost eat from your hand, and a bunch of geocaches in the area.  If the tide is low enough you can walk out tongue point and the kids can see all the sea creatures in the tidepools.
