308 hand loaders
« on: January 15, 2017, 06:41:56 PM »
Curious as to what you guys get for muzzle velocity. Today I was shooting Nosler Trophy Grade accubonds 165 grain factory ammo through my chronograph for the first time and was getting a 2520 reading at cold bore. 2570 for the second shot directly after the cold bore shot. I got 2520 on both cold bore shots though.

That's not that far off.  You can load faster but fast doesn't always equal accurate.  What was your barrel length.  I get 2600 out of my wifes gun but it has a 22" barrel.  You could probably get 2800 out of a max load and a 24-26'' barrel.

Just looked up some different data and actually looks like you could approach 3000fps with right combination.  But Ill take a accurate load over a fast load any day of the week.

That's about what I've seen from a 18" barreled OBR using published load data.

I've never seen anything close to 3000 fps except with 155's in a Palma rifle.

I'm shooting a 22 inch barrel with factory muzzle break. Are you hand loading buzz?

I was pretty impressed with my 338 RCM though pushing a 225 grain bullet at 2670 from a 20 inch barrel. Pretty good ballistics from that through the calculator. Going to check out my 7mm rem mag next

Me either just seen some supposed load data that said 3000fps.

Yes I strictly reload except 22LR.

Here is a bit of load data for you.

Gun is a 308 AR, 18 inch Ballistics Advantage pipe, 1 in 10

You can find the gun in the same section, look for hunting AR thread

165 gr accubond

45.0 gr Varget
2675
2647
2645
2658
2644

45.5 gr varget
2701
2668
2684
2674
2680

Both loads were shooting same POI, neither grouped better than the other. Average I would say best group went to the 45.0 gr. I use a Dillon 550 then hand adjust the powder per charge.
