Right now your best bet is to get out and cover ground. get to know as many area's as you can. Look for last years peels and that will give you an idea on where to start. Once the new peels start showing, then set up a blind in an active area. keep working that area and then in late may you can start the fawn in distress calling. Just my

Well, I listened to the advice and didn't sit and call. It turned out to be a better afternoon evening hunt because of it. On the way out it was just dumping rain and it seemed that it was going to be strictly an FJ ride in the woods. However, once we got to the gate it was blue skies all the way. We went up an checked the cam...a few pics of yotes but no bear activity. So we packed up, changed out the card and headed out. We took a different road that we had not previously explored and were going on the assumption that it may lead us to another part of the unit that was open. We found some great looking ground that will have to be revisited later in the season. My guess is it looks good now but will be grown way the heck up later on. After drving up and around we cam into some area that deserved to be walked. Found some are that one of the other members and his son are hunting and kept a sharp eye for trail cams. Didn't spot any so no cam antics were to be had. After walking a few smaller spur roads and not seeing any fresh sign or scat...just a few old peels....we decided to keep on going. Turns out we were much closer to one of the other gates than we thought. Walked another short spur and when we cam back out somebody had walked in just past us and seemed to be doing some target shooting. Not wanting to head that far back into get past the shooter we called it a hunt and headed out.
So...no sign at all up higher....old sigh down lower. Seems that they are not very active yet. I've heard rumors from a few guys that sighting have been had of course but they are few and far between. Going to head back out to explore this evening.
Here is a pic of a little doe. We came around a corner and she was just off the road. She looked more startled than we were and didn't seem to know what to do.

Would love to but I'll be looking at more houses. We didn't get that other one in bearadise. Someone offered above asking price and got it. Good luck. If you want to see some of my hidey holes from last year let me know. I probably won't be available until after this weekend though, going sturgeon fishing.
