California gov OKs bill to take some guns
« on: May 02, 2013, 01:53:29 PM »
small artical in the paper this morning.
Gov jerry Brown on wednesday signed legislation aimed at taking handguns & assault rifles away from 20.000 californians who acquired them legally but have since been disqualified from ownership due to criminal convictions or serious mental illness.
The measure, the first of several gun-related bills to reach the governor, allocates 24 mill in surplus funds to hire dozens of additional special agents to tackle a backlog of 40.000 weapons in the hands of people not allowed to have them.
anyone got any more info??

California Governor Jerry Brown signed into law Wednesday a measure that increases funding to confiscate the tens of thousands of weapons owned illegally throughout the state.

SB 140, authored by Mark Leno (D-San Francisco), allocates $24 million to identify and seize assault weapons owned by convicted criminals and individuals with serious mental illnesses.

"Today, each California community is a step closer to being safer," Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento) said in a statement. "This swift action by the Legislature and the Governor to enforce the laws we already have is a wise and worthy investment to reduce gun violence."

Wonder how many they will actually locate that haven't already been "given" or "sold" to some unknown person...or does CA have a personal sales registration requirement?  Educate me please.
