I need a new, lower profile carry for $500. Suggestions??
« on: August 30, 2013, 11:05:50 AM »
I currently carry a .45 XD 4". I love the fact that the mag carries 13, but it's bulky. I want something that is smaller profile that will go in the small of my back. I also want something for which I can actually find ammo.

My Glock 36 is pretty nice. The thinness is definitely noticeable when carrying it.

I have been looking too p-man.  I am going to tag.  I have a S&W SD9VE kinda of bulky too but can't beat the amount of rounds.  I have been looking for a gun for my wife and she really like the Ruger LC9.  I am partial to the new Taurus Millenium G2 they have out this year.  Reading good reviews about it.  http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/04/tyler-kee/gun-review-taurus-millenium-g2-9-mm/.  My problem is having a compact or sub fit good in my bear paw hands.

S&W J-frame. Small light and easy to hide. I like it more than the pocket .380's on the market. another good choice maybe the Diamond back DB9, I would do some more research on it first though. I have heard both great and bad things about them.

If you like single action / 1911 style, Sig P938 is just barely bigger than a pocket 380.  If you skip the laser you can get them just a little over $500 if patient.  Triggger is a little heavy but for it's intended use not a bad thing.

I have the Springfield XDs in .45. It is a little more than $500 but its a nice weapon. Very concealable and packs a punch.

S&W Shield thin enough to be comfortable carrying and big enough it doesn't feel like a toy gun in your hand. I think there was one in the classifieds.

We have a couple of J frames. They are indeed light and small.

I heard many years ago that the average self defense shooting is only 1.2 shots. I think the stat is carried lower by the fact that mere defensive display of a firearm will deescalate the situation. That said, if it does come to shooting, count on emptying all 5 rounds into the perp and needing to reload, which is painfully slow with a revolver. practice practice practice.

A recall was issued two days ago on the XDS .45. It sometimes fires twice with one trigger pull or has fired without a trigger pull. Pretty rare but there's a quarantine on all sales presently. Got this just now on the phone with Sportsmen's.  :dunno:

There's also a safety alert on this piece. The safety bar can fail and the gun can fire when dropped. Wow.

I just got a S&W Shield, .40.  Outstanding carry weapon!!!!!  Love it!  I got mine brand new for little less than $400 at Quantico Tactical.
