.300 WSM options

Don't decide without entering the Browning X-Bolt into the equation.  One of the most ergonomic rifles I've ever held.  I'm going to be making a similar decision next year...Kimber Montana or Browning X-Bolt.  Maybe I should do both.

My brother has the tikka and it is absolutely amazing the accuracy he shoots with it. I have the x bolt and love it. Really accurate and great feel. Love the dura touch stock it has. We hand load for both and I get really good accuracy with most loads I test out of mine. Shoots a wide range of bullets well.

Does Cooper make a synthetic stock?  That would probably be sweet if they do.

They do, the model 52, but it doesn't come in 300 WSM.

Guess I've always been too distracted by all the pretty wood when looking at their site.  Any idea whose stock they are using?  Their website never gives much information.

What about FNH? Any opinions? I might be creeping towards the 1k mark on the rifle, I know I could get away with it, but is it worth it?

The only issue I had with Browning is the short bolt lift. Not bad, just different.

That's what I like the most about Sako and Browning.

I was in the same boat at the beginning of the year. I liked Tikka's but really wanted a pre-64 model 70 but also wanted something brand new. I stumbled on the FN PBR XP. Its kind of a trifecta of perfect timing for the modern M70. It was new manufactured in  New Haven, has the pre64 style claw extractor, and uses the old and reliable and tuneable M70 trigger. I don't know that there is another way to get that modern combo. The one i ordered NOS came with a B&C coyote stock which was perfect for my wants. Shoots great with hand loads, 180Gr TSX is my hunting load and also shoots phenomenally on paper. You can pick em up fairly cheap ~700ish.

I had the model 70 feather weight chambered in 300 wsm and it was a shooter. Owned a tikka in the standard 300 win mag and it shot great as well.. id buy either rifle again in a heart beat.

  I have 4 different 300 wsm's (Savage, Tikka, Remington & Kimber) and my Kimber Montana has quickly became my favorite. The Tikka shoots great as does the Savage. The Remington is a pile and it will be the last one I ever buy. I also had a Browning for awhile and it was a nice gun, but didn't fit me well. If you can afford a Kimber, then go for it. If not, I would recommend a Tikka.

I reached out to a friend who has a good number of Cooper rifles.  He does have a fiber stock.  According to him (I'd rate as reasonably reliable) the fiber stock is custom made per Cooper specifications by HS.  If that is true I'm liking that way better than any B&C stocked rifle.  Still wish Kimber would offer a different barrel taper. I really like the Montana stock, the Kimber action and basically everything else about the Kimber rifles.  But since Kimber refuses to do it this Cooper looks pretty good.  Although they don't show the 52 being offered in any Short Magnum.  Just Long Action.
