I am starting to really hate stray cats
« on: January 17, 2014, 11:51:10 PM »
The past week I have caught the same two stray cats four times in my bobcat sets. I don't think they will survive our next meeting. Was hoping after the first few times they would get trap smart, but I guess not. The great part of this, this morning checking the traps stray cats in both of my bobcat sets, and what do I find 10 ft from the trap? fresh bobcat tracks and scat. The question I am asking myself did the strays ruin this area since I am pretty sure the bobcat came by after the stray was in the cage, would it know from seeing the stray in the cage not to go into it now? Tempted to use them as bait if they keep going in the traps :bash:

Sounds like the perfect bait.

I would think the stray cats would be an attractant for the bobcat. Shouldn't hurt the set at all as long as you can keep the set working.

I had lost a chicken one day. Set trap using carcass from the dead chicken remains and caught a stray cat.  Not sure if was the oringal killer.  But I followed the SSS method and didn't lose anymore chickens that year...

Well one of them is no longer with us. He was looking pretty rough, and I thought about the fact this cat is disturbing the ecosystem in the area I am trying work.

Not just the area you work.

I read another similar article last year, if it were legal where I live, I would have started shooting every stray/feral cat step foot on my property.

killing stray cats is good conservation. Like others have said, they cripple bird populations. Unless they have a collar, I wouldn't feel bad at all.

I'm trying to build up the quail population and they nest on my property.  I enjoy seeing the little buzz bombs a whole lot more than I enjoy seeing cats.

Use them for coyote bait--a cat is like a dish of ice cream to a coyote!  :chuckle:

No kidding, stray cat=dead cat, especially after being nice the first time.  Do us and every song/game bird in the area and snake and lizard a favor and kill those POS's.   :bash:

Stray cat had gotten under our house and sprayed.  It was pretty bad each time the heater kicked on.  Not a big fan of stray of ferrule cats.

A few years back, I think someone was dumping stray cats in my neighborhood.  I stepped outside and the spray smell hit me, and I saw one cat in my driveway, one cat going over the fence, and a third cat walking down the middle of the road, and that's when I built the cat trap.  That year, I must have trapped 18 or 20 cats, and not once did I see a "missing cat" poster in the neighborhood.  I now have a professionally built cage trap, and caught a stray cat this morning--first one I've seen around in months!  :chuckle:

You might want to take a closer look. Got the same thing when I worked at a camp ground ,they turned on the office heat and  :yike: .two of us were elected to check it out. Stray cat up in the insulation under the office had died there. Happen three times in the winter.
