Idaho BONE
« on: November 16, 2008, 08:08:00 AM »
I did my quick foray to one of my spots in Idaho.  My plan was to shoot the first legal buck I saw since I really didn't have time to trophy hunt.  Well I couldn't do it on the first couple little snappers I found.  Something about shooting a little buck just to fill a tag that just didn't feel right to me.  Anyhow I was working up the face of this mountain, and if you have ever been in this part of Idaho, there are two directions, up and down.  I was hitting the fog again, like I was cursed or something.  Anyhow, I was gaining ground climbing this ridge and almost to the top of a bench and I look up and all I see is bone at thirty feet through a bush. Visibility was to about 40 feet in the fog.  I figured he was bedded, but I found out in a minute he wasn't.  Anyway, no time for an eval.  He lifeted his head up at me looking down his nose over the bush and I stuck a stinger right into his throat.  This is the second time I have done this on a buck.  The arrow went through something awefully bloody and his spine.  He flipped over, did a couple convulsions and bled out right on the spot.  I fished him off the mountain a ways until I got into deep brush and the rocks got dangerous.  Then went to work cutting him up.  I slipped back to the truck, got my frame pack and loaded him up.  He was sure a stinky bugger.  He had taken a shot to the nose by another buck.  You can probably see it in some of the pics.  That was a fresh wound.  He had an old wound tot he eye that was infected.  He also had an old stab to the shoulder that wasn't looking real good.  He was definately a fighter.  Another old buck.

I have a Montana tag.  I think I have until after Thanksgiving and then some December times if I use my bow.  At least the price of gas has plummetted.  It literally costs half less.  I mean fill up a truck for 50 bucks versus not being able to fill it for a $100 makes a HUGE difference.  We'll see if I make it over.  I am enjoying photography alot too and its not quite as far away from the family.  I might get to take Lil Bone out tomorrow.
