Corroded Knight barrel
« on: May 19, 2014, 05:44:08 PM »
 :yike:
so ive aquired a knight muzzle loader that looks horrendous in side the barrel..ive spent 4 hours trying to remove as much rust as i can, but heres the wierd thing, i can finally see most of the barrel but there is corrosion on the rifling..i thought this as kinda wierd due to the nature of my job. so i figured i come on here to find out what i can do to treat this, if my plan b goes awry( ez soak for a day then scrub). any ideas?

Thanks!

can try running a bore brush done the barrel , then a bunch of cleaning patches   cut up some old holey shocks  they will help get more of the crud out of the lands  .you might also try chatting with (  Sabotloader )  who puts lots of posts on here .  Hes been big help for me when it comes down to questions about  inline Rifles    shoot him a line or two maybe he has some better ideas

Get everything wet with Kroil and let it soak overnight.

I bought some stainless steel bore brushes from Brownells that worked pretty good on an old 50 cal I bought (for a 50 BMG)

Then there is the JB bore past (haven't used, but have heard of it)

I don't know if you have had any luck yet, but I have read on some previous posts in other forums that you can go to an auto parts store and get a chemical that you could pour down the barrel and let it soak and it would remove all the rust.  I don't remember the store or the product, maybe someone else can chime in.  If not go to auto zone, etc,. and ask them about it.

im thinking bore brush patches and then some jb bore paste. i know some guys on here used to talk about improving the pattern on shotguns using green and red scouring pads wrapped around a bore brush and attached to a cordless drill . might help to get the tough stuff out as long as ya don't polish out the rifling.

With a shotgun well oiled 000 or 0000 steel wool on a drill will do wonders.
