Right on!  Even the young ones are big, and the meat is awesome, so I know you are enjoying it.  That's what its all about.  Good job, thanks for the pic!

Man those moose are big.  Has to be a work out to gut and quarter one.  Do you have any more pics of the right side of the antlers?  That looks kind of crowned over there.

Ripper.

Way to get it done on your own.  I am hunting the Douglas late hunt as we speak.  There are moose here but not behind every tree😁

Glad it worked out👊

I had the other thread removed due to personal reasons. I'm not ready to talk about my hunt yet. I thought I was but I felt my blood pressure rise as I started to type. I will post my story when I can do it in a diplomatic way. I ended up shooting a young bull on my own because I was out of vacation time and needed to get back to work. Meat in the freezer, Yum.

has your blood pressure dropped yet?? Or did I miss the story?

Ok, here we go. After my first trip over I waited a few weeks to go back since I had heard that hunting would be better later in the season. I also had to schedule time off of work and so did my 2 friends that wanted to assist me. I went over a day earlier than them so I went back out to one of the areas I'd seen fresh sign in. Nothing new so I went back to the hotel and picked up Glen and Robin for the afternoon hunt. We went to the other area I had in mind and decided this is where we would go the next day. First thing in the morning we hunted an area someone told us they had seen 3 moose the week before. Nothing, so we hit our area that we had planned to hit first thing. While glassing a clearing and the surrounding tree line I noticed movement about 150 yards up in the timber. It looked brown so I thought it was a deer but it turned out to be a bull moose! I grabbed my gun and tried to get him in my scope but he moved off a bit. He looked to be about 36-38 inches wide, ok paddles and a few points. I headed into the timber to try and get on him but he gave me the slip. I was excited, on my 7th day of hunting I finally saw a moose! I would have never seen him road hunting. Makes me wonder how many we just drove past the first 5 days over there. Anyway, we spent the whole day out in that area. We drove around to the other side of this patch of timber and found where the clearing we were in circled around to this side. According to our GPS it was 650 yards from where we spotted the bull to this side of the timber. We made a plan to come back here in the morning to see if he or any other moose would be out at first light. Since we were running out of daylight we decided to go back down to see if the bull would step out where we could see see him. As we rounded a corner we caught movement inside the tree line and it was another bull! I grabbed my gun and jumped out. He was down in a hole and not very big so I decided to pass. It was almost dark and I didn't want to spend half the night getting this "small" 700lb moose out. Down the road we went when another little, spike, moose stood in front of us. Not for long, he took off up the hill so on we went. I thought, wow, 6 days of nothing now 3 in one day! There was nothing out in the clear cut so we decided to drive out slowly and see if anything else would show itself. Well after we left the first bull of the evening, he decided to make his way out of the hole and up above the road about 30 yards. The next day would be my last to hunt since I was out of vacation time and this looked like a gift. Something inside of me said don't be greedy, this a gift and it wont get any easier. I got out and took him. One shot through both lungs and top of the heart. He reared up like a horse and fell over backwards. I took the shot with 11 minutes of legal shooting light left. I was able to back my truck up to the edge of the hill and we dragged him right into the truck. Now we needed some place bright so we could skin and quarter him. In Coleville we came across the do it yourself car wash. It was bright and had water, perfect! I thought for sure the police would come around and question us but for 2 1/2 hours not one person said a word to us. Gotta love Coleville! We got to the Motel about 1:00am or so. The next day we drove outside of town to bone out the rib cage, remove the back straps, tenderloins and roast.  Then it was back to the West side to drop off the 4 quarters and 55 lbs of meat. the backstraps, tenderloins and roast went home with me to clean up and vacuum pack. Oh yeah, we grilled up some back straps for dinner. Kinda tough but tasted good. I'll have to figure out the best way to grill moose so it's not so chewy. You don't want to sear it like a regular steak I learned. I have more pics on my wife's camera, I'll get the SD card and load them when I remember to do it. :chuckle:  There was some negative stuff that happened prior to this weekend but there is no need to delve into that. This weekend spent with 2 good friends and a moose in the back of the truck is what I will remember about the hunt and I will savor every moment. Especially the Coleville car wash, that's my favorite part.
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!
