Got a 4-th Grader? get a free national lands pass
« on: September 08, 2015, 08:44:34 AM »
OK, so I'm not an Obama fan, but I am a public lands fan and anything that helps the next generation get into the woods is a good thing. This new initiative offers a free year-long public lands pass for 4th graders (plus family members) to parks, forests, BLM, etc.  It's called "every kid in a park" but includes general public lands, not just national parks.

Here's the website:  https://www.everykidinapark.gov/

I despise Obama, but I get every free lands type of pass a senior citizen can get.

Go for it.....and enjoy it, before Obama screws us on that too...
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

If I had a fourth grader I would be on this.

If its every kid in a park why is it only for 4th graders?  :dunno: :dunno:  Is Obama discriminating against children of other ages?   :chuckle: :chuckle:

My kids fall on either side, none in 4th grade...

If this were a State program it would not be constitutional.  What is open to one group of citizens must be offered to all.

My oldest daughter is in 4th grade, so this will work out well for next summer. We're planning a trip to Yellowstone.

There must be a higher percentage of minorities in the 4th grade :dunno:

I'm assuming they chose 4th grade due to that being the age at which kids are just old enough to appreciate the outdoors. Just a guess though.

:yeah:

Supposedly 4th grade is the make it or break it year when it comes to wanting to be outdoors.

The key here seems to be to provide an incentive to get families in the woods who would normally not go. If the 4th grader gets to take their family for "free" and it normally might cost $20 then that might make the difference of going to a forest/park or to the wildwaves.  Anything that gets kids in the woods helps--even to inspire future hunters.
