Best bows for the money?
« on: December 05, 2016, 06:23:45 PM »
Thinking of selling one of my safe queens to bankroll a new bow. Thoughts on best bows for the money? I figure now would be a good time to ask about some of the 2016 bows since guys have had a season on them already. I'm a backcountry hunter primarily and I put in the miles so a lighter bow would be appreciated, but performance and reliability trump everything else. Also I can get a decent deal on Bear and PSE bows so if there are bows in those brands that are worth looking at I would appreciate that info.

Lots of good bows around. Need to shoot them an see how they hold for you. I settled on athens after shooting almost all the bows that came out last year.

I shoot a PSE. I think they are hard to beat for the money. Ive found PSE's are fast, forgiving and accurate. May not be as smooth to shoot as a high end Mathews or Hoyt but I like my PSE.

I'd say Bowtech CarbonIcon or a Mission bow... but to me the best value is finding a slightly used elite and transfer the warranty.. or find a shop that is knocking hundreds off of bows made in 14 or 15 with the new models being released I got my Mathews HTR last year for hundreds off its normal price because the Halon was just released and they needed to make room

Depends on what you are looking for in a bow. Speed, Forgiveness, Back wall, draw cycle, adjustability, weight, :dunno: etc. Bad shoulder and love for smooth draw and comfortable back wall has me in an  Elite or an Xpedition after 28 years of switching bows around. Different for everyone though. Elk have never complained that the arrow did not go through them fast enough.

go to a few bow shops and shoot ALL the bows...matthews, elite, hoyt, bowtech, misison, pse, bear etc.

Figure out which bow feels best to you...

THEN go to archerytalk.com classifides every day for a month or so and you will find the  bow you want (most likely) at a great price.

I got an $1,100 Elite Answer that had been hunted with for max two weeks and bought it for $500

This is the best answer you will find, if you are looking for value.

Don't buy new... unless you just like spending extra money.
We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.

:yeah:
For real value, you always want to buy used.  I bought my Bowtech Carbon knight a few years ago for $400 off archerytalk, they were $599 in stores.  Aug this year I bought a Elite E35 that was literally 3 months old for $600 with QAD rest right off of this site...

Find what you want/like and then keep your eyes open and be ready to pounce.
