375 Ruger
« on: February 16, 2009, 11:02:04 PM »
I talked my wife into letting me get a new rifle for my birthday and I was at a pawn shop in Deer Park this afternoon looking at rifles and the 375 Ruger caught my eye. Nice looking gun, great for squirrels, rabbits, pika, polar bear.

What are your thougths on the gun. I don't know much about it yet. The one I was looking at was the Ruger Hawkeye.

If I get a large caliber I was either thinking the the 375 Ruger or the 450 Marlin.

thanks

Chris

I myself have thought about getting something big like the 375, it will kick like a mule but who cares.  Depends on what you will use it for, if you are going squirrel hunting then maybe it will be tooooooooooooo big, but if you want to down elk or bigger game then more power to you(literally).  I think everybody should have one in their collection. :twocents:

if you are looking at a big bore...I might look at a 375h&h.  Ammo will be cheaper and more readily avail everywhere you go.

good point on the ammo and availability. They are comparable in power so it does make sense. I'm always looking for something new that catches my eye. I was actually thinking of it for moose, and large bear.

I own 2 ruger Hawkeyes All-weather models.  One in 308 and one in 358.  I really-really like em', and wouldn't hesitate to get another in a different caliber.

The 375 Ruger is begining to get a strong following, and I've been hearing and reading good things about it.   It would be good for big bear, moose and elk.
Check around for ammo avalibilty...and if you reload, brass.

Let us know what you get!

Kurt
